I thought the latest idea of the protesters was very clever - hanging bat boxes over the cameras. Any sign of bat activity and they’ll be forced to leave them there |

For the avoidance of doubt, as the legal folk like to say, I'm no EV hater , I'm just not interested in owning one right now with my long estate-car trips to and from the West Country and to and from mainland Europe.

And on the EV side, I wouldnt have one for your use case either. They work in more cases than some would care to admit, but definitely not all.

Apparently France is pretty good for charging - certainly better than parts of Scotland. West Country is improving but I wouldnt fancy needing to charge en route or down there in peak weeks...

I think I paid £400ish a year for servicing on the Disco. I haven’t spent a single pound yet on the Tesla (18 months).

ETA that was a first year service. Didn’t pay for the second. I recall that the second or third was a four figure touch.

Currently battling head vs heart. Heart says I want the Porsche Macan S I’ve put a deposit on, head says the EV options are too good to ignore right now.
But I need to be able to comfortably do 180 miles in all weathers and conditions for the weekly office run, and ideally fit 3 child seats on the rear bench (not isofix). So I’m not sure whether that limits me in the EV world as that was mostly the reason for binning off the 4 GC. I really should learn ignore these sensible thoughts |

The Polestar 2 ha really tickled my fancy seems really well equipped and fast in the dual motor version... claimed 290 range but to be honest I do about 30 miles a day so even if i got 200 in peak winter its no sweat. Really looking forward to it, just need a buyer for mine. |

Maybe I should have bought a Polestar 2 rather than an Audi A4 petrol estate recently. Apart from the overly firm ride, they do get good reviews. I cannot believe the depreciation on low mileage 1 yr olds, up to 45% in many cases! Would have saved a few ££ 🥴

and 3 years later I am looking to pay £26-27k for an example with less then 30k miles ideally. Looking at the Tesla model S released in 2014 the top spec costing around £68k and being a now 10 year old car the cheapest example with 116k miles in a private sale is £17k... cheapest from a trade seller is £18.5k with 75k miles. so in 10 years its lost approx 75% of its value from new which seems about right to me. An M5 from the same era 2014 had an RRP of £73k and 10 years later the cheapest is £18k private with 80k miles and cheapest trade is 20.5k with 60k miles. Depreciation %'s appear to be the same ish so I'm not living in fear buying a used example worrying the value is going to drop to zero it just isn't. and to be honest the savings in fuel alone will offset any extra depreciation I'd imagine. |

still 16k or so in a year is an insane amount of lost cash. I would say the single motor is far less desirable probably doesnt help with re-sale. |

Yeah I understand the hesitance around polestar but really they only sell one car, small brand and I imagine been dumping money into development of polestar 3 and 4. Would be tough to turn a profit selling a single car whilst also developing two other brand new cars.
Backed by Geely a monster company, I'm sure Polestar will only fold is Geely choose and it certainly wont be before they see how the polestar 3 & 4 fare on sale across europe, asia and NA. That said talk of billions lost is scary and wont be helping their value! |
