One brilliant thing about EV's is that they'll reduce the number of caravans on the road.
Hits the range of an EV by around 50%.

Surely it can't be LPG (propane), as that would make a mockery of the whole point? Summer 2035......."breaking news. There is a 15 mile queue of touring caravans approaching Leigh Delamare services on the M4. And fights are breaking out with people trying to get to £7/Kw charging points". |

The link has to be broken as the world moves to renewables, there is no logic to it. If we want to use less fossil fuel and therefore more renewable energy, the cost of the renewable has to be freed from the price of the fossil fuel... But everyone knows that, its having the drive to resolve it that we need! |

Over time the link between the prices of renewables and gas will naturally weaken. The new renewable contracts are fixed price for the first 15 years, so they are in effect independent of gas, but it’s the legacy stuff (pre-2018) which is priced as wholesale + a (ROC) subsidy for the first 20 years. Breaking the link more rapidly is tricky, as investors will (sensibly) demand a much higher return for all future projects if the gov does something it considers untrustworthy. |

I was out and took the ICE tonight.... forgot it might need fuel as it doesnt fill up magically overnight but it said 90 miles and I was only doing 60 so no probs....
Except the M25 was closed coming back and I'm not that good on alternative routes round that area, but anyway they were all going to be longer. And its back roads and midnight and petrol stations are closed. My first dose of range anxiety for months! (and I got absolutely murdered away from the lights by a Polestar 2!) |

The M5 and RS4 are two cracking cars that most people would love to own at some point. Curious as to why you did so few miles in them compared to your EV? Is it because there’s been a change in your journeys so you do more mileage now? So you’d have been driving them more too if you’d still owned them?

And that is the other thing I suppose - my regular trip to Derbyshire was £70 in the RS4 when I had it, and even allowing for expensive public charging its more like £35.... Also I've driven into a London a few times in the iPace that I never did in the RS4 for obvs reasons.... I think I have the perfect mix now, iPace is fast, relaxing, comfortable, cheap to run. The Mini is fun, engaging and small - and cheap to run. And I can put the roof down if it ever stops raining! |

I am looking at EV's with more and more interest just lately!
We're considering a bigger car for my partner as we're planning a family and this did bring me to looking at EV's as a friend has a model 3 and I have read some bits on this thread about the iPace etc. Now the iPace is very appealing as a family car its large and looks really well finished on the inside... it's fast and seems to have a reasonable range of about 200miles ish on a charge I guess depenings on age and conditions. at around £20-24k for a 2020 model with sub 30k miles I think is an absolute steal consider the 400hp dual motor AWD setup. In fact is has me so interested I am almost considering getting out of the 440i and into an EV.... crazy I know! when I weigh up the numbers it's is the sensible thing however my heart longs for the sound so the engine and the engagement of going through the gears on the paddles etc... so I think its smart to sacrifice her car for my own curiosity into the world of owning a used EV. Anyway probably nothing will happen to the end of the year after we re-mortgage but it's certainly tickled my fancy! Any advice on best deals/methods for getting a 7kw charger installed at home for as little £ as possible? I know Jag were doing a free charger with EV purchases at some point but think it's stopped. |
