Question What stocks are you buying?

Looking to diversify my IRA a bit more and not be in ETFs so much. Curious as to what stocks folks are keeping an eye on and/or buying now and why.

Well if you wanted more details, then you should've asked that in your original post :-p

I purchased AMD at 4.80, mid June 2016 and held onto it when it punched through 15, promptly sold until last earnings when it got clobbered down.

Bought again at the low of 10.06 last week and holding now.

I also purchased NVIDIA right after earnings for a quick 10%

I can count the number of times I've received useful stock advice on this forum that led to tangible realized or unrealized gains on 0 hands.

Any reasons you'll get for buying X or Y stock from lay investors are going to be tenuous at best, anyway.

Considering the strength of the USD consider looking into Canadian MJ producers. With legalization potentially hitting in 2018 it could be a big market.

Do some research but here are some suggestions.

NVIDIA is at an all time high right now.

I've held some of these for almost 2 years now, some more recent. There are some big swings (down recently) but now with legalization looming and the government approving production expansion for MJ co. I think there is a lot of meat left on the bone to make a massive profit.

I'm sticking with euro, and my long term portfolio is going towards defence industries.

add: EMH, IMH, EMC, SL, OGI, ACB to that list for other licensed producers.

US plays are: EAT, NF, GLH, BCC, MGW, TNY

things are trading well down from their peak in Nov 2016 or early April 2017. Probably a good time to get in if you have the risk tolerance.

I'm not diversiying, I own over 800 shares of apple and have made a ton of money. It's trading at $150 now and is projected to be anywhere from $180 to $202 in the run-up to the iphone 8. I brought it dirt cheap in 2015 and it has shot up from there. (I paid like $115 a share and it did drop to $89 but is $150+ now and still going up). I would max out the IRA and open a non-retirement account that you can pull money from without penalties whenever you want (though you will pay capital gains, but the gains make it worth it). If the stock market starts tanking, sell your shares (in whatever stock you own) and buy gold or silver, which generally go up when the S and P 500 is trending down. So you can always make money, even during a recession. Also, Apple is at an all time high and has been for months. Diversifying is what the pundits tell you to do, but that reduces your earnings as when one stock is up, the other is down and they cancel each other out.

You're looking to diversify by not being in ETFs, I'm assuming the index kind? You're diversifying types of securities by picking individual stocks, not truly diversifying.

Trying to pick stocks for a long term account is just about the dumbest thing you can do in investing and you're guaranteed to lose money.

Think about it. Market is at an all time high and you're asking for stock tips on a BMW forum. Not only do we not know, NO ONE knows.

Stop trying to beat the market because you WILL fail like nearly everyone else. Buy a Vaguard S&P 500 index consistently and never do anything else and you'll be golden

This is the best advice you will ever get.
