Stop the Madness! (have these types of things happened to you?)

I have been thoroughly enjoying my new 340i and try to take good care of it as best I can.

Why then do these types of things happen? Where do these people come from? Never before has someone ever parked so close to me with so much space around them! Thank heavens there was no damage.

Seriously, though, I went in the building without a car in sight near mine (as I intended) and figured there is plenty of parking close to the building away from me. When I came out, this joker was an inch from my car!

Curious, though, have this type of madness happened to others? Would love to hear stories (hopefully funny and lighthearted ones)

Looks like your car has the unannounced A-h*le detector software.

Yup, happens to me all the time. Just recently I parked off in the deserted hinterlands of a parking lot and as I'm walking away a VW comes tearing through the lot at high speeds and pulls in right next to me.

I honestly think many people just instinctively feel comfortable being closer to other cars. You see it all the time with lemmings on the road that attach themselves to your bumper or worse, your blind spot, and sit there regardless of whether or not you slow down or speed up.

In your case though, the guy is so close I think he was deliberately giving you a hard time.

It's inevitable that someone will notice that you've gone out of your way to park out of harm's way and opt to park directly next to you in order to get you excited. It looks like it worked in this case.

Here's my experience in a nutshell - the more you care, the more trouble you'll have. The less you care, the less trouble you'll have. Just park as safely as you reasonably can so you don't draw too much attention and you'll be fine.

Free life lesson - don't sweat the small stuff.

This is so true. We bought "ding insurance" for our X5 - basically unlimited PDR for 4 years. So we've been parking the X5 willy-nilly in all sorts of tight spots. Not a single ding after 4 years!

So I skip the ding insurance on my F30 and park in the far away spots or end spots. And get a ding in less than a year. Right on the rear quarter panel wheel arch too where it's going to be tough to get out perfectly.

God is laughing at me.

I figured as much. Honestly I chuckled a bit when I saw this (and realized I didn't have a scratch). The list of my friends' cars ran through my head as well thinking this might be a practical joke. Still, a moment that had to be shared.

BF, I realized that after I read the post it sounds more negative though in my head it is read in with more jest. This is one of the rare times I park far from others. I just rarely have these moments that seem to come from an Adam Sandler movie! Thanks anyway for the free lesson!

Apparently his auto park sensitivity was set to "extreme douche" distance.

This guy is not only comfortable closer to other cars, but walls too. Ah well, stupid people doing stupid things. Probably 8 inches between me and 6 inches to the wall...

There's literally a million open spots in my underground garage, but seems like a perfectly good idea to wedge in there though.

Definitely on purpose. Probably saw your nice car and was jealous.
Quite simply, no one gets that close when parking is that wide open.

I've noticed this happen to me numerous times. It's the sheep mentality that stupid people have. They think it's better when their car has company.

I hate people. Some a-hole did that to my wife's Benz. About THAT close. I walked out..looked at it..cussed. Went out later to move the car, the idiot back up to leave but not far enough and took the paint off the bumper and left without a note. I contacted her and she says 'I'm not taking responsibility for something I don't think I did' and hung up. I haven't decided what to do just yet..but she'd be hating life if it were my F36......

Makes one want to walk over their hood to get to the other side, right?

I have a hard time not reacting to this kind of stuff. I take care of my stuff, no matter what it is. When some a-hole is that care-free with my stuff, there will always be problems for them. I refuse to buy a new car and let the morons of the world eff it up because they they have the IQ and decency of a rock. My blood pressure might be higher but in 5,10,20 years, my stuff still looks good.
