NBT v CIC - Why does NBT have no 3d terrain?
Hi all,
Recently I've noticed that NBT cars with Professional Navigation - at least with the Europe maps - lack 3d terrain in perspective view. The map is completely flat. The buildings are 3d, but the surrounding terrain, even if you are in the mountains, is flat. 3d is turned on in the map options. By contrast my CIC fitted car has very obvious and defined 3d terrain on the latest maps. As a result it's far nicer to use in 3d view. Does anyone know why this is the case? |

I have a 2013 330d xDrive M-Sport that has NBT with the professional nav. I have Next 2016-2 installed and i have 3D terrain and maps....
I think its related to the edition of maps you have as to if you have 3D maps |

Just to revisit this again - do any of you who get 3D Terrain in perspective view have a photograph?
My 2008 335i, 2010 530d and a 2012 Z4 all with CIC all have/had quite noticeable and prominent 3D terrain in perspective view when set to 900 yards or greater. It was really very noticeable when driving around hilly areas. Yet every single NBT fitted car I've driven - from loan cars to rental cars to my own car - does not. This is a feature I really liked, so if some of you do have this working can you show us what it looks like? One thing I did notice was that on CIC in Perspective view the loading/redraw times were incredibly slow when zooming in or out. I thought that perhaps BMW had abandoned it for performance reasons. |

Just went out and tried again - as it's quite clearly 3d in your photos (Though with the Sat view overlaid above 900 yards which is a pain - CIC would do 3d at higher scale without sat images but it's better than nothing).
Flat as can be - 900 yard view there is zero difference between Sat Images on and off. 1 mile and up and you get the satellite overview but it's completely flat and devoid of any terrain detail. Very odd. Perhaps it's a map thing? I'm using the latest Europe map... |

So an update to this. I went out and set my interactive map to exactly the location of yours in the photo - and low and behold there it was, full 3D terrain view.
I then picked a couple of other areas, like the Far North of Scotland - 3D Terrain view. But down in the South of England, it's a flat as you like. Now I appreciate that the South of England pretty much is as flat as you like but we've still got the odd place where there are hills of up to about 1000 feet and CIC Professional navigation shows quite obvious terrain view all over the country. It seems NBT does do terrain view, but only if you are basically driving alongside an actual mountain.
