Can someone tell me if this damage is normal? (MPPSK)

I'm getting extremely aggravated with my BMW dealer, their service department is horrific. I've already went back 4 times to get my MPPSK adjusted/fixed/reflashed. Now I suddenly have very loud vibrations under my feet during cold starts so I looked under the car and saw that I have a huge dent in my exhaust. This is the first time I'm "modding" my car in any way so I have no idea whether imperfections in the exhaust is normal or not. It's a brand new car and I've never hit anything underneath it.

I haven't checked mine but I've read multiple places on the forum where they come like that new

From the MPPSK Official Release thread, post #247. This one looks slightly different. Maybe for clearance or could be some complex waveguide issue designed to create the right tone? :-) Just guessing. I'll take a close look at mine BEFORE it's installed.

I'm curious, though, what were the symptoms that prompted you to get your MPPSK reflashed? I'm planning to get one very soon, but have some confidence issues with my dealer who seems to know less about the MPPSK than I do.

It's normal, in fact you can see it in the kit shown on page one of the MPPSK Thread.

How did you know to get the dealer to reflash it?? What symptoms were you having?

I don't have the MPPSK, just the stock exhaust, and I noticed this too the other day, but it seems to come like that

This seems to be normal. I pointed this out to my SA. He brought in a brand new 340i and showed it to me on the lift.

To answer the reflash questions, it started off as my dealer basically lying to me and saying that they can't seem to flash my computer and that I'd have to bring it back. The reality was that their master tech went home and no one knew how to do it. So according to my SA "I had a partial flash with only 75% of my extra power." Which was basically a shitty way of saying "the exhaust is installed so you're getting 5 hp from it but the flash didn't happen." I came back and they tuned it a few days later. Sorry for not being as descriptive about it. That being said, I'm still not sure if I've actually got the tune but my VIN appears as B58M for the engine so I'd assume it works.

That his so weird for it to be dented like that by choice. doesn't even seem to be the lowest point.. Makes no sense.

That's where I'm confused.... they're reducing the flow area so maybe they crimp it there to increase exhaust velocity for added sound effects.

Others who have a 340/440 WITHOUT MPPSK stated their VIN also said B58M - I suspect this is NOT a good way to tell.

When you do a WOT pull in 2nd and 3rd what peak HP / TQ numbers you getting?

I get about 360 - 370 HP / 370 for TQ

I find it ironic that if an aftermarket company did the same thing it would be trashed on the forums, but since its a BMW exhaust everyone is fine with it

I'm not necessarily fine with it but the physics behind it could make sense.

There's a bunch of things that happen at this point. Velocity of exhaust increases at this point as well as headloss. This can alter the sound but I'm only a structural engineer and won't speculate on that part of it.

More than likely it is for clearance reasons, they could have made a smoother transition but they went with the cheaper route

That may also be true but the aerodynamic effects of a smooth bend vs. a rough bend are pretty significant. If only someone from BMW would actually answer these damn questions.
