BMW is Smart / Locking My keys Inside

I normally carry my key in my coat jacket, but today I left it in my briefcase. Returning to the car, I open the trunk, throw my briefcase in and close the lid. As soon as the trunk closed, the car gave three warning sounds and the trunk opened on its own. Instead of realizing what was happening, I closed it again and there you have it. That's how you lock your keys inside.

I am super impressed with the safety mechanism BMW Engineers designed. I was a dumbass for not embracing it.

Comfort Access?
My 2007 Nissan did the same thing, and it was the stock system, not an extra charge option. Not only that, but no matter how many times I closed the trunk with the key inside it wouldn't lock.
I don't have CA, and to be sure of what would happen I did toss my keys in the trunk and close it. It locked. Not a problem, I used my spare key, and made a mental note that while my Nissan was smarter than me, my Bimmer isn't. My key stays in my pants pocket, so the only way it gets locked in my car is if I have a really interesting day.

Same thing happened to me in my old e92 coupe but my trunk didn't open when the key was locked inside. Locksmith couldn't pick the car locks for his life so we opened the doors with a wedge and a huge, skinny steel rod. Lost an hour or two and worked remotely that day :P

That's a pretty cool feature. Surprised that it closed after the second time. Would have thought that a 3 strike system would apply.

I can see how the coding logic went there. Cue bush video about fooling him twice

Didn't know that it actually would let you lock your keys in your trunk. My 2009 Altima wouldn't let me do that no matter how many times I tried. Only tried it on my F30 once.

I just tested mine. Put keys in trunk and closed trunk. Got warning beep and trunk opened. Put keys inside car and tried to lock it. Car would not allow me to lock it. So no way to lock keys in. I do have comfort access which came with the Premium pkg.

Haha nice can imagine a great big facepalm after that second part set in

You can also do like me and forget your key on the windshield, hear a strange noise from it falling deeper past the wiper but not think about it, drive 50 or so miles and then spend 20 minutes frantically looking for your key to lock the car before thinking about that noise... car detailer always puts the keys on there so they never accidentally lock them inside before pickup... apparently

This is true with most proximity keys--it's not exclusive BMW technology.

This is very weird...

I did the exact same thing - several times in a row - even to demonstrate the feature to buddies and it *never* locked the keys inside the trunk ... It just kept opening the trunk.

I have a 2014 F32 ... what's yours?
Do you have everything up to date? When was your last dealer visit?

You and I have the same car, but mine is faster because it's E-Blue.
My last visit was in August. However, the car is currently getting the combo-box upgrade.

Sometimes Locksmith will not able to unlock some car locks. So for those you need to dealer to provide you the new one.

Yeah Locksmith will not able to replace and repair all the car door locks, but jeffc83 i agree with you also that the problem must have been resolved by the time.
