Oyster/Black Interior + Blue Jeans
Does anyone have any real-world experience with the Oyster Dakota Leather (w/ Black) interior? I really like the color combo, but I'm concerned that it would turn blue after coming in contact with blue denim jeans. However, I've heard that the Dakota leather is coated, so I was curious about what other folks have experienced.
Thanks in advance!

I have Everest Gray, you can see a photo in my "garage" link to the left. I would say it's as light as the Oyster, though the color is more gray/white than cream/beige.
I'm only 8 months/8k miles in and I'm particularly finicky, but I have not noticed any color transfer and I do wear the occasional dark jeans. I'm probably not the best test case but it's a data point for you anyway. I do believe the leather is coated, but I suggest just using a little caution and not grinding your denim into the seat getting in and out. Really this is the only time there is risk for color pickup, when there's friction between the materials. I don't think it's going to just absorb dye while you're seated. |

I've had oyster for 2.5 years/31k miles on my 2012 528. Wear jeans almost every day. The very outside edge of the bottom seat bolster has a hint of blue in the right light. I do clean the leather, but am not fanatical about it.
I liked the two tone of the Oyster, but will probably not get it again. |

I have coral red and haven't noticed any color change, but I clean the driver's seat as soon as I see hint of dullness that could possibly be from jeans, which I wear almost all the time. Paranoia from too much forum reading, probably. |

On my E90, I had the Saddle Brown seats. I was the 2nd owner, first owner had it for about 3.5 years before I purchased it from him. When I received it, it already had a wear mark from blue jeans. Not sure if he just didn't condition the seats or what-not, but it was there.

We had oyster leather in our '02 X5 for about 10 years. No issues with dye transfer from jeans. I'm not sure if that was the same quality of leather in the F30 though.

No issues with jeans. I've used leather conditioner maybe 5 times in the last 2 1/2 years. The drivers seat did however come with a noticeable crease from when it was picked up at BMW Welt. It looks like a mark but its just a leather crease that's about 2" long and has never gone away. They were supposed to fix it when they shipped it but it never happened. I don't think it would have been noticeable on black. Oyster looks good but personally I think its nicer in the 5's and 7's. I think its a "richer" or "classic" look. I didn't even consider it for the 4 series because I wanted something sporty. Went with Red. |

I think the Oyster/Black looked (and looks) great in the configurator and in a new car, but I think it looks dirty most days in normal use. Kinda like a black car, they look great when they're clean and 2 second later, dirty again.
As I mentioned, I'm not fanatical about cleaning it, maybe if I cleaned it more often it would look better. It does clean up ok, but I just don't have time to wipe down the seats all the time. As far as "blue jeans" transfer, there's just a little and even the detailing I had done wasn't able to eliminate it completely. |

I had Oyster in my E90. I wear jeans a lot and I definitely had some blue dye rub off. I probably cleaned the leather once every month to keep it nice. It does show dirt also.

I also had this in my E90 and also cleaned once a month. It showed dirt in between and there was noticeable wear on the driver seat thigh bolster after about 3 months. I'd be concerned if the car is a "keeper" |

What kind of color transfer, and how often do you clean your seats?

With Oyster, my friend keeps matching white terrycloth towels on her seats to avoid this problem. They stay on there pretty well, so it's not a pain to deal with, and the color match is pretty good.
I know that doesn't answer your question, but it's food for thought. Also, detailedimage.com has a good guide about how to use Leatherique Prestine Clean to get jean-dye transfer out of oyster. I use that product on my tan leather and love it. |

Avoid the worry and potential headache and just go with black leather. IMHO of course.
