A Glass of WHINE
I came home today with my manual and not my car. I have been to dealership 4 times since Saturday as I am having some minor aesthetic mods done before delivery. Saw the car yesterday and all was well. Arrived midafternoon today (after taking a day off of work, no less) and there was my car with a nice 1 inch scratch on the right lower front bumper.
It obviously happened on the way to or from detailing as both the body shop mgr. and my CA saw the car at 11 AM and it was unscathed. My CA was pissed, the body shop mgr. was super pissed ( as it was likely one of his hikers who did the deed). I did not go berserk ( which I am perfectly capable of) but I was very annoyed and disappointed. They were starting to work on the car before I left. I told them when I came to take delivery, if it was less than perfect, they could keep it. (luckily they do superb work--just had my wife's Infiniti bumper redone there after a truck customized it). I now have my CAs 328 coupe, my owners manual, and a serious need for a drink. Turned in my 135 as I am passed the 7 day lease grace period and, in essence, paying rent on a car that it fully paid for. On a good note--car looked beautiful and I am very pleased with my minor customizations. |

I told them there had not be any "brush marks". I have no issue with spray/blend/re-clear. These guys are very good and I already told the body shop mgr. if I ever have an issue with paint in that area while I owned the car he was going to redo it no charge. He agreed.
I store my 911 with these guys and have bought a few cars from them. There are a class A shop. |

on second thought. Maybe I'll ask for an M sport steering wheel. That would help soothe the savage beast in me. Last edited by emtrey; 08-23-2012 at 09:56 PM.. |

A one inch scratch on the lower bumper? And they are fixing it? Gosh, some people seem to have too much time too worry about small things. Worse things have happened to mankind. Noone will be able to see it, especially after you have hit some curbs, rocks, snow etc. It is an extremely minor accident.

The car will, of course, end up with minor blemishes as it is driven. Most of us would prefer to have the opportunity to drive the car off the lot without scratches however.
The OP has handled the situation well; no expectations of demands other wanting the scratch fixed. Completely reasonable. |

I had no intention of not taking the car. I've waited too long, turned in my leased 135 and spent money w/ the body shop on minor mods |

Well if he has the bumper sprayed with paint, that could affect it. If he were to trade it in to a dealer that checks with a paint meter. I just hate that he has to deal with that with a new car! But your right, it is a bit much. I'd just rather have it buffed/polished out.

Context. Don't be so quick to be judgmental. I can't see anyone looking at a noticeable scratch on their new, undelivered car and saying, "Oh well, crisis in the middle east, severe drought in the US, I'll take just as it is, no biggie, crap happens." No, I'll bet your tone would be different if it were your new car. |

Go to any dealership parking lot and notice how many cars are parked with their bumpers sitting directly on top of those concrete barriers. It's ridiculous. BMW goes though great lengths to manufacture perfection and these goons at the dealership take it away in a matter of seconds.

It continually amazes me how many people place the nose of their car over barriers, curbs and the like - oblivious to where the nose ends. Apparently many use the Braille method of parking; pull forward until you feel either the nose or the front wheels hit something.

I had an uncle who only stopped when he hit something that was not moving His kids took away his keys. I am guessing my damage was done scraping a tool or some other upright object moving the car from body shop to detailing. Car ready for pickup Monday. Fingers crossed
