What is your pad thickness cutoff for a track day?
Trying to get an idea of what most guys do in terms of brake pad thickness for a track day. Do you swap out pads at 50%? Less? More? I wonder if pad thickness has any role to play in terms of transferring heat to the pistons and caliper, with the concern the boots might crack or blister under too much heat.
Right now I run the Hawk HPS+ which has been a good pad for the track and car I currently use. I use these pads only for the track and they are now down to the 50-45% remaining mark. Time to bin/trash/chuck 'em or one more track day?

However, I recommend to bring a backup pad once you get bellow 50% just to be safe. I’ve had a pad crack on me with around 50% before. Also had another one where a chunk of a corner chipped off. So it’s always best to be prepared. |
