Air Carbin Filter

Can anyone explain where I can find the air cabin filter? I want to take it off, and spray a little Lysol in the vents. To freshen the smell of the ac. Anyone do this yet?

thanks!

I would imagine with the amount of air flowing through it, what you spray will wear off quickly or if you spray a lot in there initially, the smell would start off pretty strong.

You can find a manual at this site:

Good luck.

The cabin air filter is under the hood, at the back of the engine compartment - it covers the rear of the engine - behind the hood/engine compartment seal (this is often called the micro-filter.)

It's not the source of the stink, which is water or mildew in the bottom of the compartments that hold the evaporators (a/c). Your drain might be plugged. Also, try setting the recirculation OFF (outside air) at least one mile/a few minutes before you shut off the car, so that the evaporators get a chance to dry out.

2013 bmw 335/328? It's under the glove compartment. Not worth it to spray Lysol. When I get that damp smell, I change the filter, which is once since I bought the car already. All smelling like clean leather now.

Can you provide the year and model? Did you check out the link below? It provides detailed instructions on how to replace the cabin air filter. Just choose the manufacture and model series in the drop down. Click on the wrench icon.

If you're in the US, have the dealer change it under your free 4 years of maintenance.

I just changed my cabin filter since I started to smell the refinery in Elizabeth as I traveled the NJ Turnpike. It was clear that as-of the 40k miles I have on my car Park Ave BMW hasn't replaced this part. It was filthy.
There is definitely a proper way to insert the filter, but I just payed attention to the position of the old filter when I removed it. I don't recall its orientation.

Use concentrated bleach. It cleans better.

Whoever said the filter is accessible in the engine bay is wrong. Thats for the e90.

In the F30, the filter is in the passenger side under behind the glove box.

Much more info in this thread:

So the arrow on the filter should be pointing to the back of the car and not to the front right?
