Thanks, I can't wait. Went a bit crazy with the extras too ;-)
I have a billion questions about the f30... Being an Audi man for the past 4 years and never owning BMW I have a lot to learn....

Ha ha yes you do, if your Audi was like mine I can help you with your first topic....No it is not acceptable to have to put a litre of engine oil in every 2000 miles

Hahahahahahahahahaha! Sooooo true I thought there was a problem with mine, but the Audi guy was like "it's normal" pah! Onwards and upwards....
If I can get average 40 mpg out of my 330d I'll be a happy man! Oh, yea and less oil.

200 miles on the clock of mine. Did a run from Herts to Manchester yesterday. Got 50.3 mpg going (in no hurry doing 70-80), and combined including coming back faster got 48.3mpg.
I love my car....

Just to share my experience on this. I collected my car 19th December and how have about 1,300 miles on it.
Initially I made no effort to get good MPG and have been enjoying the grunt a bit too much to focus on MPG. In the last few days, I thought I'd be a bit more sensible. Without much effort at all, I get around 35-36mpg (indicated) in town driving, with a mix of stop-start and 30-50mph stretches. On the motorway, I get 60mpg easily at 75mph, but this seems to drop a bit to mid-50s if I let the speed creep unto 80. I initially thought Eco Pro was a waste of time, being so unresponsive, but it helps create a really relaxed driving style in city and suburban driving and I have to confess to liking it. I'm very happy to see these kinds of figures, even if the on-board computer might be being a bit optimistic. The motorway MPG is impressive, but I'm startled by how good the car is in city and suburban driving. Impressive, given the grunt you have to play with. |

Good question - I hear diesels aren't great on MPG when cold. In the case of the motorway trip, the car was fully warm (temp needle at 12 o-clock) when I hit the motorway and re-set the MPG.
My 'tests' in urban driving have included my very short commute of just 4 miles for the last few days. I reset the MPG indicator about 35 miles ago and the average still moves quite noticeably if I cane the car. After the motorway run (only about 20 miles), the average came down quite quickly from 60mpg, but settled at 35-36. When I set out from cold in the morning, I see the average drop by a few tenths on the gauge in the first couple of miles, but then it starts to climb back to circa 36mpg. So it's very unscientific and I'm driving quite gently, but it's clear that the average is still moving and I figure that if it's rising a little from 35 mpg, then I must be making 35+ mpg on a given trip. I suppose I should bite the bullet and re-set on a cold start commute. I'll try that tomorrow. Have a horrid feeling it won't look good at all ... Overall, I'm impressed with the mix. |

800 miles in now and mine has an average of 44. That's for the whole period with only a couple of 1 hour m/way trips. Happy so far. I quite like the Eco pro mode as well, it makes driving economically a bit of a game.
Hate stop/start, so that always gets turned off. Asked the dealer to code it to default off and they said they couldn't for emmisions reasons! Been using manual recently to see how that compares the mpg. Good results so far as you can preempt traffic conditions better than the gearbox. It is a bloody impressive gearbox though... |

By way of comparison, after 8K miles the 328i is doing around 38-39 with 'normal' driving - that's 50% country lanes, 25% dual-carriageway/m-way and 25% town. On a long m-way run it'll return a shade over 50mpg at a steady 70-(ahem) which is pretty impressive. The scary bit is Sport Mode loony-style where it'll drop to around 32mpg.
Incidentally, these figures are all with the aircon mostly 'ON' if that makes a difference.

I drove the 328i Luxury for a month and my 330D M Sport is TWICE as economical.

I would have loved to have got the Xdrive. Would have been the perfect car then. Oh well maybe next time! But then again by then the 335D/340D may be available in RWD only and I'll go for that!
