Bubble in tyre, where do I stand?
Hi all
I have a bubble in the side wall of one of my tyres. The car is only 3 weeks old and done 900 miles. Should BMW replace it? Do you think they will?

Worth asking about, and some dealers would if you've a good relationship with them. It's one of those things though, that if you gone to a dealer further away to get a better deal, that will be much harder to deal with.

It's pretty difficult to do that to a run flat. So either you had quite an altercation with a pothole (worth checking the alloy as well) or there was a manufacturing defect in the tyre. The former is much more likely. Get the tyre changed as soon as possible. A sidewall bulge can and will lead to a failure of the tyre, it's also illegal in the UK and is an endorseable offence if you're stopped by the police.

Well, the best BMW will offer is that I pay to replace it, and they will send it away for analysis.
However, they said this will have been caused by hitting a pot hole. Ina ll honesty I did hit a rather nasty pot hole on the A4 about a week ago, so this will only go one way and will be a waste of time. What is shocking is the quotes I have had to replace from BMW. Berry Chiswick £460! (for ONE!) Barrons BMW (where I bought it) £320 I have ordered from black circles for £250 fitted. I am pissed off to say the least, they tyre has only done 1,000 miles! I may try and claim the damage back off of the council, but I am not sure if it worth my time and effort? Does anyone have any expereince with this?

I once successfully claimed off kent county council for a tyre damaged by a pot hole about 4 years ago, so worth a try.
That was a run flat on an e60. I took photographs of the tyre and submitted along with my claim. |

If the gov't website on potholes is anything to be believed then your chances of making a successful claim are slim to none, but then they would say that.
http://www.highways.gov.uk/our-road-...d-by-potholes/ However in 2012, local councils paid out £20M in claims for pothole damage so if you think you have a legitimate claim then it's worth it. But as someone has said, it all depends on whether it's been reported or not. Quote from Which? "Your chances of claiming compensation depend largely on whether a pothole has already been reported. Section 58 of the Highways Act 1980 provides councils with a statutory defence if they can show that reasonable care was taken to ‘secure that the part of the highway to which the action relates was not dangerous to traffic’. In other words, if the local authority knew about the pothole but hasn’t repaired it, or hasn’t followed road maintenance guidelines, you should be able to claim."
