Is the steering vibration something that develops over time? Is it something that is really noticeable or do u really have to pay close attention to feel it?
Reason I ask is because I test drove 2 new f30s one a 328i and 335i both sport package. I didn't feel anything wierd with the steering in both cars and I tried to feel for it but it wasn't there. I also had 2 f30 328 loaners this year and drove those two cars extensively for a few days and felt zero issues with the steering. I mean is the vibration that bad? I know on my m3 when I'm driving over rough roads my watch starts to make clinching noises from all the vibrations but I felt no such thing in the f30s. All were dead quiet |

Has anyone else noticed that the characteristic of the vibration change when Neutral is selected. Testing is difficult as you can't maintain a certain speed. But the vibration seems less prominent.
In my case, the shaking is completely gone after balancing and alighment. But the wheel still feels restless compared to other cars. The higher the speed, the higher the revs, the less vibration. Try this: drive and ''the issue speed"", select neutral, OR, select manual mode and change gears -2. This issue may be caused by the steering column/wheels/tires etc, both also by engine vibrations at low revs. The issue does only appear in the 1000 -2000 rpm range. Hmmm. |

Please post the video
Hi, I am in the market for pre-owned or used 2012 328i. I was wondering if someone can post a youtube video of a steering wheel vibration for us who are in the market for a new car?
Thank you. |

I posted fairly extensive descriptions of my experience with the vibration issues. I have to say that the serious vibrations seemed to have gone away after several months of driving. I stopped noticing the bad vibration/shaking issues after around the 3000 or 4000 mile range. Yes, it was a VERY bad serious issue so I am thankful it seems to have disappeared. I can only surmise that as the tires became worn, something happened with the sensors/system that caused it to behave more normally. And, no, I did not just get used to the bad shaking/vibration.

It's a tiny vibration, not a fireworks display. I doubt any video would pick it up. Try using your hands and butt to sense it, IMO.

There was a video posted recently with the vibration visible. Sorry I can't recall where it was posted though.

What really bugs me about this thread is there are still people who think/assume that because they see any vibration in a car's steering wheel, that must be what everyone else experiences.
Now that my car has 7000 miles on it, I can say there is still a bit of vibration to it, but nothing that is a concern. I would not think twice about it if this was how it was all along. The major issue is gone. But I wish I had taken a video of it during the first 1000 miles just to shut up anyone who wants to think this was not a major/real issue. Think Star Trek episode with camera shaking and someone shouting "she's breaking apart, captain!" and you'll have an idea of what it was like to experience it. I'd be very curious to see the video that allegedly exists if anyone wants to link to it. If it looks anything like what I experienced in the early weeks of owning this brand new car, it would be a real eye-opener for a lot of people. |

Have you noticed too that you can feel the vibration with your left hand, if you place it on the storage compartment in the door?
The dash, the seat, nothing else than the wheel seemed to vibrate, but i noticed this while pulling water from the compartment. Please confirm. Today I reported back to the dealer, 1,5 weeks after alignment/balancing. They invited me to see the car again a make up a plan (because there are still vibrations and the issue speed varies over time). I also noticed the wheel can vibrate visibly when the tires are cold. The dealer suggested this is due to the nature of the run-flats. I don't really care, as it is gone after a few kms. Beside this issue, i am very much enjoying the car. |

Guys, thank you for responding to my previous post. I will really appropriate the youtube video since I am planing to take this car for the test drive next week:
http://www.classicpainesville.com/Ve...-OH/1848171933 In your opinion how likely is that this car will have the same problem? Thank you. Last edited by vkoprivica; 10-19-2012 at 12:11 PM.. |
