Tint affects auto dimming?

Hey guys,

want to get my F32 tinted from the back, but I'm worried that the tint would affect the outside mirror's dimming since the sensor is inside on the center mirror. Can anyone please share their experience with this?

Thanks

I am not getting tint installed on my new car until Thursday but it did not affect the auto-dimming on my 1M...

Thanks for the info man, gonna wait a bit to get some more feedback (re-assurance) and then get my car tinted.

I had my car tinted with 30% and it didn't effect it..it still autodims just fine.

If anything there's even less glare now since the tint blocks a good amount of the headlight glare from other cars.

I have 20% window tint installed and it did affect the auto dimming. It still dims every now and then but only if the car behind me has bright headlights. My e90 had 30% and the auto dimming worked much better.

Isn't that the whole point of auto dimming. That it dims when there is car behind u with bright lights.

In theory, it would affect the outside mirrors since the sensor is in the vehicle. There were several threads discussing this a few years ago. The sensitivity of the auto dimming can be increased via coding, to deal with the situation where the outside mirrors are not being dimmed sufficiently enough because the sensor in the rearview mirror are not picking up enough light.

I haven't tried these settings but i read about them from a thread at bimmerfest.

ISP_HECKSCHEIBE
The above describes the rear window. Default is Hell (light). I believe you have tinted your rear window, then you should change this to Dunkel (dark). If your outside mirrors are still not dimming sufficiently for you, try these:

CODDT_00_SCAL_DIM_ECR_LIN
CODDT_01_SCAL_DIM_ECR_LIN
The above two sets the dimming level for the outside mirrors (left and right). Default for my F31 is 20. Try increasing that to 39.

Which modules would I find these in? Thanks!

For my 2014 F31, they are all in the FEM_BODY module.

It does affect the auto dimming function slightly, however, the tint does offset the effects. The sensor that controls the auto dimming function is in the rear view mirror; so darker rear tint will reduce the sensor's ability to properly judge the glare.

Shine your phone's flash light on the rear view mirror and watch them auto dim.

I have 20% in the rear and 25% up front. There have been a few instances where the tint did affect the auto dimming function when someone was traveling slightly back one lane over.

I took my F31 from delivery at the dealer directly to my tint, PPF and paint sealer place. My car was tinted with 35% premium ceramic tint.

I also coded my rear window to dark and RLS to insensitive. My dimming mirrors work fine, I only wish BMW didn't cheap out and leave the passenger side non-dimming for the LCIs.

Thanks for this, retrofitted auto dimming exterior mirror but thought they were slow to dim and took quite bright lights. Then I realized that also the interior mirror dims only with very bright lights… Well that’s because ofcourse tinted the rear windows from day one.
Let try with ISP_HECKSCHEIBE first and if that not works change the other wto to 39.
