Enable AirPlay on your BMW
Thought I'd post this here, found a really cool product some people may be interested in.
Especially people whom a) Don't have BT Audio b) want the AirPlay benefits of Lossless Audio and Ability for multiple people to connect at once and DJ as wanted. What this product does is basically take a really tiny router, put custom firmware on it that acts as a router with ShairPlay(Open Source version of AirPlay) and allow you to have AirPlay capability in your car. It works great on the F30, just plug in the USB cable for power, and the AUX cable for the audio and you are off and running. Here it is in my car: If you have any questions about it feel free to ask... The questions I had before I bought it were: 1) Can you use LTE Data to stream Pandora/Spotify etc while on this WiFi connection? Yes 2) Yes bluetooth for calls and WiFi for AirPlay also work simultaneously. Super Spiffy. Here's the guys site for more info: http://airenabler.qnology.com/ He sells it via Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/AirEnabler-Ada...rds=airenabler Last edited by kromix; 02-21-2014 at 05:56 PM.. |

This is great! Every time you get in your car do you have to go back to your iPhone and select the airplay connection again?

When you get in your car its connected to the WiFi already as it's remembered, you just have to choose whats gonna play and hit AirPlay, as you would everytime with an AppleTV or other AirPlay Enabled device, just this is in your car. |

yes, the perks come in the ability for anyone to quickly connect from the back seat etc and take over and airplay etc, and not having your phone tethered to a cable.

Man this is perfect. Ordered one with overnight delivery! I just bought a new 320i without Nav or extended bluetooth and have been reduced to plain music through the headphone jack to aux port using an aux cable.

Would you use that with your BMW 30 pin Aux/USB adaptor? Plug the BMW Y cable in and then this to the 30 pin on the Y cable?

Yup. Just plug the 30-pin connector into the arm-rest USB port. The Auris skye connects to the 30-pin jack. You may not need an Aux adapter, depending on your car's capability. Mine does not need one.

Wow...great find! So this essentially gives those without BT audio the capability to play Pandora/Spotify/iPod untethered from their iPhone.
For those who have the first unit: How seamless is it? For example, I've often found electronic devices similar to this to be finicky...only works half the time, buggy, in need of constant fussing, etc. How is the reliability of this overall? |

I'm going on a week now, I love it, its completely reliable, always works.
Due to the nature of aux cables I had to also order this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to resolve any feedback. Also, It takes about 15 seconds to boot up so not immediately available, however, as soon as u unlock the car power is provided and cuts out alot of the "wait time" if you unlock your car as you are walking to it. |
