Crazy head scatcher after first service
Picked up my car from the dealers this afternoon following its first service oil change etc. While sat in parking area, I set my Nav to take me home, and the bleeding thing rebooted.
It did it twice more while I was checking what other stuff was broken, turns out I have no DAB radio any more and it wont synch my contacts from the iPhone either. I grabbed the mechanic who worked on the car and luckily enough it did the same while he was sitting in the car Long story short, he hooked the car up to diags in the workshop, and it seems that it needs a software reload or if not, then the whole head unit will need replacing. So its booked back in for a minimum of 2 days next week So now I have no Nav (constantly displaying "loading navigation system") I have no DAB radio and no contacts from my phone. and rebooting every few minutes. One thing that worries me is that I updated to the latest maps about 2 months ago and the unit has performed flawlessly. It is only immediately after the service that this has all happened, They didn't update any software on the car. I have tried to go back to the previous maps but the damn thing keeps rebooting interrupting the update. *sigh* Any suggestions? Jerry |

That sounds a right pain in the arse, and find it hard to believe that they didn't do something to it that caused it. But what else can you do...?

They've done something for this to happen. Which London dealer? Hexagon, Berry or Park lane?

Is it at all possible that the map update might have caused all this? I really should have asked, I am assuming it will be done under warranty? Jerry |

OK, so I took the car in yesterday to get this looked at. I got a call from them to say that they had ordered "a new part" but the mechanic working on it wanted a word with me this morning.
Anyhow, I have just spoken to him, and it turns out they are replacing the entire unit, which comes with new 14-2 maps. I was given a choice, pay cost price for the upgrade or have them downgrade to the original 13-1 In the end I relented (read why further down), providing he would make sure the quoted price included the VAT. This whole thing would be funny if it wasn't for the fact that I had already paid for a lifetime upgrade FSC and had already had the 14-2 upgraded to 15-1 The reason why I agreed to pay? Well I did want the maps updated from 13-1, and I had a thought, what if updating to 15-1 caused corruption to the head unit? The mechanic said the latest for the car was 14-2 so how come many places on the net (including contributors to this forum) are supplying 15-1? I should get a call to pick it up later this morning. I have to say I love the car, but all this has soured the experience a bit for me driving around with a big blank screen in front of me was certainly no fun at all I suppose one way to look at it is that I still have the lifetime FSC to use as and when new official updates are released. Lesson learned. |

you say you had 2015-1 maps? and the new system will have 2014-2?
@shawnsheridan seemed to indicate 2014-1 is the most recent euro map at the moment - that is why is in my Feb 14 335d http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...2&postcount=48 edit - a bit of trawling seemed to find downloads for 2014-2 Last edited by moonshine; 08-29-2014 at 05:06 PM.. |

Well when I picked it up yesterday it actually had 2014-1, now I am just pondering updating to 14-2. whatever I decide, I will not be using 15-1 until that is officially released for my version.

My main worry would be if they bundle new non approved ( not signed off) map files with firmware combined. Map files on their own would most likely only effect the nav side of things (if was an issue). If was a combined file (map and firmware), then the firmware could brick whatever hardware it was updating. We have had a few incidents of this lately with people cutting corners and using pre production firmware, then bricking the hardware. |
