JTD's new arrival - F31 335d timeline - Collection day at last!!!!

Hi all,

I'm conscious that I've been hijacking everyone else's new order threads with timeline/status update questions and frustrations, so I thought it was about time that I created my own thread to track my new arrival from conception to delivery.

+ I also thought that it would be a useful timeline indication to those placing new orders as to what to expect and when - I know how frustrating it can be, especially as your "production week" approaches yet you see no change in the status/confirmation for production.

+ A link to my "Ship tracker" thread here:
http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1170655

My order timeline:
The latest so far... (I'll keep it updated with status code changes and dates as they occur).

I was a bit of a kid in a sweet shop with the options (nearly every one ticked!) + Individual interior, so aware that may cause my order to take slightly longer, although I've stuck with a standard exterior paint as I've that heard Ind paint is the worst for causing delays.

+ I know a lot of you will think, look what else you could have for the cost of that spec (that said, I'm really happy with the deal and discounts I got) however, after the X5 M50d vandalism nightmare (see the Aston keyed thread - http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...1162993&page=3) I wanted something fast and luxurious with all the toys for my daily driver/commute to the station (which I really enjoy - 30 mile round trip) but which also needed to have all weather/year (I live in the middle of the countryside) and towing ability for the Caterham + practicality + will fit in the garage that I now have to rent at the train station (again ref X5 nightmare).

After much deliberation, I couldn't think of anything better or more suited than a spec'd up 335d touring as it is one of the few cars that ticks all of those boxes perfectly

Regarding mod's, I'm fully prepared for the onslaught on here That said, I'm finishing off my new garages/workshop this year in preparation for the arrival of my new Caterham 620S SV late spring/summer next year (which reminds me, I also need to buy a new Brian James trailer) so I may have to do my best to resist the major mod's initially in an attempt to try and stem the tsunami of outward cash flow at the moment

The Complete Plan:
The wider plan is working out well so far (aside from the X5 M50d vandalism nightmare earlier this year). I sold my Exige S and was toying with either an Atom, a 311 or a Caterham 420/620R. I love Lotus's but after driving a few Caterhams over the years I've been hankering after one for some time now, there really is nothing quite like the sensation and driving experience. Only issue is I'm 6' 2", broad and could do with loosing a few pounds. Whilst I can fit in a standard bodied car, it's tight with the side screens on. My head said get a 420R SV or a 311 but my heart wanted s 620 (only available in standard body) - I told Caterham the car a really wanted was a 620R SV - Up until this June they had been refusing, then the call came – “Due to a small group of customers like you requesting a 620 SV we will be developing/building both R ans S spec 620 SV's for delivery spring/summer 2016” – Order placed there and then!!

So with the Exige sold and out of the way and the 620 S SV coming next year, I thought it a perfect opportunity to build new garages/workshops this year. My old man is a retired builder/developer, so this year I have sacrificed all holiday and large number of weekends to build them with him. I've got a week and a bit off in Oct to play with the new 335d and felt, batten and tile the roof to make them watertight before the weather gets really nasty. I'll start work on the inside over winter - I'm thinking F1 pit garage

Anyway I've gone on long enough, to conclude, I can't wait for the new arrivals and some proper time off next year to enjoy playing with them.

I'll keep my timeline post updated with developments and pic's as and when it all starts to come together.

All the best,
Joe

Thought I'd ticked a lot of boxes!!

Enjoy the wait.

Read the manuals and watch every video on YouTube about the car and accidently pop into the local BMW dealer to have a wander round an F31........

Not that I did any of that!

Dave.

Update:

I checked my status with BMW UK again yesterday and I’m still 1200! i.e. the car still hasn’t been confirmed for production despite the “Production Week” showing as 39 which is next week?

Looking back at my M4 timeline, the following status codes …

5000 Confirmed for Production
5050 Chassis Number Allocated
5055 Confirmed by Production Control

….were all assigned 2 weeks+ before they actually started the build (5100 Bodyshop Start), which in turn took place 2 weeks before the “Production Week” shown in the system.

I called again today and I'm still 1200 however the car is now starting to move further away from production rather than closer to it! - Production Week now showing 40 but since it's still not 5000 "Confirmed for Production", I've been warned that it could keep on slipping back now! - FFS!

BMW are currently training now manpower to help on production line.

It's taking longer than expected, it's all new technology to these Syrians etc and therefore builds have been impacted..

I hope it's not too long a wait for you. To make things optimistic my 5055 update went through last Friday and today got a 9000 update so wasn't 2 weeks before on my car

Anyone else out there experiencing these Production Week slips at the moment or anyone experienced it, if so how many times did it slip/what was the total additional delay before you finally went status 5000 "Confirmed for Production"?

The wait alone was starting to drive me crazy, then just as I get close I have the rug pulled from under my feet - With no trusted ETA at all now I'm going mad!

Many thanks,
Joe

That's harsh mate, sorry to hear that! Hopefully it will go from Zero to Hero over the weekend!!

Mine is still sitting in the dock, has been for 2 weeks now waiting to come over. Next ships it's likely to be on from your research is the Arabian Breeze which docks in Southampton on 23rd.

Ordered mine on the 27th of July and saw it yesterday in the dealers compound... I'm guessing your delay is to do with the individual interior. My deLer discouraged individual options unless I wanted a delay!

I'm sure it will be worth the wait though, the opal white interior will make it very special!

Sorry to hear about your delay. I was in a similar situation - my delivery date moved from early Sept to mid Sept then late Sept and now mid October! BMW confirmed to me it's due to the high demand from other countries leaving dealers fighting for production slots.

Mine was at 1200 status for at least a week and went 5055 Confirmed for production on Tuesday of this week (15/09/2015). The VIN doesn't show up in any of the decoders yet so I'm guessing mine hasn't been built - build week is down as next week though.

Odd why yours has been pushed back so much - hope it updates to 5055 soon!

Any ideas how we find out what production no/VIN they are up to in the factory? I see others have done this after reading other threads.

Do you have a VIN yet? If so you can track where you are in the production queue - that's what i'm currently doing with mine!

Cheers , Unfortunately that's the very crux of the problem, I'm still at status 1200 and not confirmed for production yet

You only get the last 7 digits of the VIN (the chassis number) when you reach the following status codes (the second one specifically however all 3 tend to arrive almost together):
5000 Confirmed for Production
5050 Chassis Number Allocated
5055 Confirmed by Production Control

Ah ok I see - probably explains why I only got my VIN when I did then. From your experience how quickly did your previous cars get through once you went 5055?

I've been 5055 since Tuesday (15/09/2015). From what I can work out the last VIN today has been K468624 meaning I (K468637) am 14 behind the queue. One thing i'm not sure though is when your VIN starts showing a production date - does that mean the car has rolled out of the factory?

I've literally been on the vin decoder every few hours seeing when they've built another - I know proper saddo!
