Arrow BMW's Head-Up Display (HUD) and how it can support your driving...

BMW is really leading the way with HUD design and features. The new 7er HUD looks awesome!!

A film about Head-Up Displays in cars. What is a Head-Up Display and why is it good for me? How can it make my driving more secure? How does it work? What´s the future of Head-Up Displays? We´ll answer your questions and some more with this short clip. See the different versions that come with the all-new BMW 7 Series or the all-new BMW X1. The BMW Head-Up Display is one of many features from BMW ConnectedDrive.

My weekend test drive with the M4 included the HUD, and it was awesome !!

Speed, speedlimit and in M mode also RPM visible, great.

One point of criticism if I may;

I would like the focus of the HUD further away. While driving and looking far in front of the car, you,ll have to refocus to see the HUD clearly.

For safety reasons it would be advisable to make the HUD (if possible) and it`s focus speed dependable.

I love it! I think I can conclude that it is my favorite feature of the car. I was surprised how far away the HUD was when I first tried it. I think in the video it says 2.5 meters away, which is close if not beyond the hood?

My only change would be: I'd like my nav directions also be in the HUD while in M mode.

Crazy that the new 7 has roughly a 12" wide HUD display!

Have hud as well. Makes drags and roll racing events a lot easier and safer because I can keep my eyes on the road while monitoring my speed.

Technically, you should be constantly refocusing anyway, looking near and far at all times.

That is why I suggested to make the HUD distance as projected speed dependable.

The faster you drive the further your focus (like Autobahn driving) when driving in the city your driving focus is shorter.

Now if it is technically possible to make the HUD this way, it would be nicer I think, maybe saver and less tiresome?

Regardless of speed, you should never be focused solely on a particular distance.

Wow new 7 is stepping it up that's a lot of possible info! I absolutely love the HUD in my car just wish it had rpm and perhaps shift points up there as well that would make it perfect! (configurable depending on mode)

HUD is awesome I still don't know why so many car companies don't have one available (cough Porsche cough)

I'm wondering as well. Curious to know if this will be available software update on models with HUD?

I like the HUD. It's cool tech, and very well executed. And I love gadgets, so it was an easy box to check.

That said, if they didn't offer it, it wouldn't change my affinity for this car the slightest bit.

I still have a habit of looking down at the gauge cluster for speed.

Aircraft HUDs are focused at Infinity so that you can see the data in the HUD as well as perceive all external objects.

Did they make it work with polarized sunglasses? Was my biggest issue with it when I had a loaner equipped with HUD.

I have the older gen HUD on my M and the newer one on the i8 and they are both great. The one in the new 7 series looks even better. I am so used to it that I struggle sometimes when I am renting cars looking down to monitor my speed....maybe a good excuse with the cops....hahaha.
