I was driving all highway for about 25 miles a couple days ago in my 340i, and I was very surprised to see 38.5 MPG on my car!

That's about the same or even better than my Civic!

Not sure if the system is accurate or not, but yeah... not complaining for that much power - MPG relation...

17 340i xdrive. 75% highway. Best tank 32mpg, worst 27.7mpg. 3000 miles on car. Mostly in comfort mode. I'm not driving with a light foot, but I'll coast to stops and I drive about 78mph on the highway.

My wife is mad because I'm getting the same mpg as she does in her 16 328xi !

52.7mpg over 40 miles today. 14 of the them were rural to suburban roads and the rest were 70 to 80 mph highway miles.

42 to 43 average on the none reset mpg values.

My current 340i rwd AT - 8.9 L/100km over 12,000km

My old 328i rwd AT - 8.4L/100km over 80k km

My foot is a lot heavier in the 340 and I use sport mode more. I was in comfort 90% of the time in the 328.

Driving the same as the 328 I would have easily gotten better consumption than 8.4, I'm quite impressed with the 340 consumption.

340i 6MT (90% Sport mode) - maximum average is around 28mpg (BMW quote 28 as the 'urban' or minimum!!) - that's around 80% town and 20% motorway. Fairly quick driving where road conditions allow, try to keep a light foot around town!

This thread could be confusing as a UK gal = 1.2 US gals!! I'm surprised to see US 340i owners getting over 28mpg unless they're doing a lot more highway driving than me (which I guess is quite likely)

2016 328i m sport - pretty even mix of city/highway, fair amount of traffic and stop and go but with some solid highway cruising free of traffic both ways on my commute. I am getting 24.5 overall. Not great.

Highway mileage on this car is fantastic and on a road trip to Vegas when the car was brand new, 500 miles or so of 95% highway, averaging 80mph with my wife, child and full of luggage, I got about 36mpg. So excellent highway mileage, considering power. But city driving really kills it with the turbo 4's I have found. Same went in my GTI, same in the Tiguan, same in this car. I mean, just kills it. Actual 'city' driving with a lot of stop and go I get about 18 at best. City cruising where I am hitting a lot of green lights and traffic is light, maybe 22, but city just kills the mileage on this car.

Despite the n20 in this car being very similar to the n20 in my 320i, given different pistons and a few other components, dialing up the boost and the added weight really makes a difference. I averaged 27.6 MPG overall in my 320i under identical driving conditions.

Driving up to the bay area and back in a few weeks here and then to death valley a few weeks after that and in both cases, I look forward to mid-high 30s the whole time. I didn't get this car for sip gasoline but I did consider it over the 340 for better fuel economy and weight savings being a factor but I can't imagine a 340 does much worse than this. It being a turbo 4, when comparing it to the naturally aspirated gas counterparts that are now regularly getting high 20's city and 40+ highway on 87, the 328 isn't the most frugal choice. But considering the overall performance of the car and that with a simple JB+, I am prob putting down about 260HP at the crank, 25 or so overall isn't horrible. If I were in a Charger or something (when hell freezes over), I would be getting about 18 overall probably.. haha

The JB+ probably lowers mpg by 2-3 miles, right?

No, it had no effect on the mileage. I drove for a number of months stock on the 328 and it was the same.

Theoretically by adding horsepower through boost, you're reducing effort required to maintain speeds or achieve speeds at the cost of more fuel demand without more demand elsewhere, however it still all comes down to driving habits. I think when you do get on the throttle with JB+, its more boost, more air and more fuel, therefore, that has more of an impact

I have a 2014 335i xDrive MT with M Performance Power Kit and exhaust. whenever I fill up my tank it ranges from 275-295 miles. I was wondering if this normal or is there a problem with reading the actual mileage when the tank is full? My daily drive mode is Sport (Chassis only) with the occasional sport+. Thanks everyone!!!

2014 335i 85% local and 15% high way. Mostly commuting to work. Eco pro most of the time kept unde 2k rpm. Getting around 25mpg or so per the computer around 300 give or take some per tank.

First month with my 2014 335i xDrive:

I'm averaging about 27mpg with a mix of 50/50 highway and city.

Got a little over 32mpg on a roadtrip doing about 65-70 in eco-mode.

I'm no lightfoot so I have been happy with this. I am probably in Comfort 75% of the time.

I came to the conclusion the other day that I ruin my MPG all the time with daily passing and onramp blasts and speeding. At some point I just open it up and its out the window. Amazing how 1 full throttle blast up on onramp to 90mph will just sap your MPG. Oh well, its not a Nissan Leaf. Last night on the way home I completely babied it through the city and home via uphill freeway and I got 25mpg where I usually get about 21. So it can be done.
