Have had my F30 about 14 months and am just short of 17k so far. I drive it most days, but between my wife and I we have 5 cars right now, so not every day, but it gets most of my miles. I will probably split miles to maximize the 4 year 50 warranty, so I am a little ahead of pace so far.

So far I have really enjoyed it. Only needed the LED headlights adjusted a little. Although, just in the last few days I have noticed a little tiny bit of rough idle. No other symptoms, but I will keep a close eye on it. Otherwise zero complaints and I have been more satisfied with it than I had hoped.

I have enjoyed my other BMW recently too. Not so many miles, but good weather this summer and the chance to track it just a little has been a lot of fun.

I tend to agree...one of my other cars is a 308QV...THAT car I think about how many miles I drive it, but even that car needs to be driven.

With a newer 3 series, just drive them people! I mean, I guess if you have an M3 or M4 you may eventually sell, you might consider mileage...

That being said, I try not to put more than 15k miles a year on mine just because I will sell it or trade it at some point and the stealers tend to screw you on miles...but leaving a 3 series sit in the garage is crazy...it isn't a classic 911 like Kaf says...

let's just say that if ONE your other car(S) is a Ferrari, then you can have that luxury. but i guess you guys don't realize that a $40k-$60k car is expensive to some people. i'm sure some folks saved for years to afford a new bmw and you guys are telling them to just treat it like an appliance. amazing

If I dreamed about the "Ultimate Driving Machine(TM)" and saved up years to buy one, I'm going to drive the hell out of it. Otherwise what's the point? Why buy something I dream of driving, only to not drive it?

My first bimmer was a 2001 330i. I put 180K on that baby and enjoyed every single mile of it.

I drive mine Monday to Friday and look forward to the days when I have to leave my office to attend meetings b/c it means I get to drive it even more.

It has everything I'd want in a car without any filler / fluff.

The SO drives my F30 more than I get to due to my 100 mile round trip commute. I take her maybe once a week to work and drive her on weekends.

I agree with the others. These cars want to be driven hard and often.

because i want to enjoy driving it.

including:
- weekend/backroad cruises
- date nights with the wife
- car shows, certain trips, etc.
- driving to work on fair weather days

doesn't include:
- tiptoeing through snow/dodging crappy drivers in rain
- piling the wife's mulch into the trunk
- worrying about it getting dinged up in a grocery store parking lot

make sense now? some people don't care, some people do. let the people that do care do their thing. and i'll enjoy flying through pothole city and eating rock chips completely carefree in my Outback on the other days.

My good 'ol lady 325I 2006 was just replaced this week by another (340XI 2017); 11 years younger which has a lot more drive and is also more .. exercised then my ex.

LOVE it. Just cant find anything negative to say yet. I would just drive it all day; period. Just cant wait for the car to be well broken in and we'll have a proper date

So that's what you mean by an appliance. I'm in California so my M235i is the DD. My F-150 is the "appliance". I haul chicken shit with it on weekends. I put 12K miles/yr on my DD, while the truck gets maybe 2K miles.

yes. maybe things are getting lost in translation. but all i'm saying is you don't need one car to do it all just because you enjoy driving the car. i put ~12,000 miles/year total and about 70% of that will be the bmw. But living in the midwest we get crap weather for several months a year and i'm not going to drive a rwd bmw in snow when i have an awd subaru as well. if we want to be more comfortable on long trips then we take the wife's cc. but theres nothing wrong with buying an expensive car and doing what you can to take care of it. The BMW is my ferrari for now lol. so i'll treat it like one.

According to this logic, the Hybrid 330e is more or less a few notches above the Prius

In all fairness, having a BMW sitting in your garage is doing you no favors. For one, BMW's depreciate pretty terribly. Having another year click by while it just sits in your garage isn't helping your value any, even if it has low miles.

You would be better off just selling it and getting another one when you can actually drive and enjoy it. Unless you plan to keep it 10+ years which at that point it doesn't really matter.

I actually had a client that just sold her lightly used M5. It was garaged, barely driven, and she was getting deployed overseas for the next few years. She sold the car while she still could get some $$ out of it before it got hit with another 2+ year depreciation. It was a $110k window originally, Comp package M5 with 20k miles. She barley squeaked by with $58k for the car when she sold it two years later.

Unless you own a 1M, GTS, or a highly in demand/ limited production bimmer, it's going to sink like a tank.

To each their own. At the end of the day it's just another depreciating asset. Might was well enjoy it

Finally got mine back, picked it up on the 1st but had some of the paint being fixed since the 14th. At this point half the time I've owned it hasn't been in my possession. Feels so nice to get back into it after driving a 330 loaner for the last two weeks.

The fanboys are out in droves... Yes, it is a few notches above a Camry, like it or not. You pay a massive premium for a model with, at this point, middle of the road performance, that generally speaking, new out of the factory creaks and rattles worse than my 85 Prelude I had in high school. Slap a BMW badge on a 320i which is optioned worse out of the box and slower than most economy base line rental cars from the airport Avis and people will pay $36k for a car that shouldn't cost more than about $23k. Same with my car - Sticker on my car is almost $50 grand. Fucking ludicrous for what the car is. So no, the 3 series isn't a big deal, its a step above your run of the mill mid size sedan like the Accord or Camry, like it or not. And I would argue those cars are more reliable and of more solid build quality. I'm on my 2nd F30 and I love the cars but I am also realistic and not blinded by the badge, boys.

I wouldn't drive a Camry because they are bland and boring with almost no focus on performance. However, for $30k and change you can get a loaded Camry V6 that can keep up with (straight line speed wise) a $50k 328i and is likely optioned better and of better build quality than said car and that will blow the doors off a 320i with the special badge on the nose. It just won't impress anyone in the Whole Foods parking lot like a 3 series, except around these parts, the 3 series impresses almost no one. Same with an Accord V6 - besides RWD, blows away a 320i and keeps up with a 328 for about $20k less. Would I drive either of those cars? No, I think the 3 series is a step above (only a step) and worth the premium to me, but not by much and I'm partial to RWD and German styling.

Exactly. You don't get a star on your workbook for keeping your 10 year old F30 in the garage, in pristine condition with 30k miles on it. Its still just a 10 year old F30 that will seem basically archaic in 10 years time. But in OP's case, some people don't have the choice but to not drive the cars much. I was speaking more to people who might baby the cars and get all precious about them.

You definitely shouldn't join a Camry forum, since you can't spell Camry.
