Hit a Deer

Smoked a deer last night going to the theater. It jumped out of nowhere, I slammed on the brakes and swerved to avoid it, but still collided with it on the driver side light. Not a lot of damage but enough that the light lens is broken, its pointing down, some scuffing and cracking of the paint. Could have been way worse! I was only going 50 mph. It is deer season here in Canada.

That sucks ... but at least it wasn't a Moose! Better luck to you in the future.

One of the local TV stations inb my area just reminded people that it's rutting season, so deer are out in force.

Fortunately, at least here in the U.S., collisions with moving animals are covered by the comprehensive portion of your insurance, not collision, so it avoids an "at fault" accident on your record and usually involves a lower deductible.

I just had $2K in damage on my three month old 440i, when a tiny rock cracked the AC heat exchanger, causing coolant loss and destroying the compressor.
