Was driving into work today and got the dreaded Drivetrain Malfunction on iDrive. Connected my OBD scanner and got "Cylinder 5 misfire" in stored codes. Bad plugs hopefully. Exhaust stunk up the entire parking lot but was able to park and turn the car OFF.

More likely a failed plug coil. Or it could be both.

Yep, code P0305. I'm leaning towards bad plug or coil as well. I'm hoping the dealer changes them for free since I just bought the car maybe a month and a half ago. Currently waiting in parking lot for tow.

They should fix it at no cost if that's what it turns out to be. Possibility it's an injector, but less likely than the plug or coil.

I hope so. If it's a coil pack or plug I hope they don't start in with the "spark plugs aren't covered" bullshit. Last time I checked the dealer wanted $1500 to change plugs and packs. I almost shit my pants when I heard that!

That is an obscene price quote. Especially since you can get a set of plugs and coils from FCP for $212 (for example) and it takes less than a hour of labor to replace.

Although it's a still a BMW loaner, this sort of irks me. So let's offer up the cheapest model with nothing in it to entice that customer to buy another yet of all things Cadillac did wrong, they did provide fully loaded loaners and only once did I receive an ATS. (was always XTS, SRX and CTS loaners all Premium or at least Luxury Trims) This always pushed me into the showroom or at LEAST think about it. Last time I was in for a service, I quickly learned how bad a base X1 really is!

I agree the 320i loaners are so bare bones and cheap. I had one with fake aluminum plastic trim that just repulsed me.

Yeah, I replaced my plugs today--paid just over 60$ and it took me an hour and a half including getting tools out and putting away and I took my time.

Thanks bud. First thing I asked the SA was "this is all covered under warranty right?". Got her on record saying "it's a CPO so yes, all covered".

I actually had a 320 but I hated it and traded it in for my 335. So far the 320 has been more reliable, that's for sure.

Good call with the dealer approach; that's what they want us to think then BOOM, they try to lay down this ridiculous price saying "well, it's technically not covered under CPO either"...they don't understand what type of customers they're dealing with here and yes, it WILL be covered!

That's how I feel when anything gets replaced under warranty because the chances of that happening twice are even more slim and if it does happen to reoccur within a certain time frame, it's on them! (part warranties vary)

So did the 320 have as many miles as your current 335? Very unusual to have coil or plug problems under 60K miles - at least in my experience. Wonder if your car had a tune in it before you got it?

The 320 has 750 miles, brand new. Not sure if my 335 has a tune to be honest. Regardless these guys CPO'ed the car and sold it that way. They need to figure it out.

Gotcha. Regardless, everything should be covered through warranty. By the way, do you have any mods on the car? Is that dealership friendly with mods? Hope you have a good SA.
