Totaled?

Anxiously awaiting insurance appraisal but thinking its totaled. its a 2014 435ix fully equipped - only had it for 5 months.

My son got rear ended by a person on their phone.

Car impact was probably 30 mph as the driver didn't even break

Both rear-end and front-end damage

Think its totaled?

That’s weird but I would say it’s not totaled.

I agree. Do not believe its totaled.

Also - considering there is damage to the front of your vehicle...

I don't believe "the person on their phone" is anymore at fault than your son.

Expect insurance premium to increase as well as vehicle resale value to decrease drastically considering it will have a reported accident on file.

LOL - how could the person on the phone who rear ended a stopped car at 30 MPH without breaking not bet anymore at fault than my son.

Your joking right.

and by the way even if the stopped vehicle is pushed into the vehicle in front of them - this still means the vehicle that caused the accident is at fault - In addition there is something called DIMINISHED VALUE which you can sue for which accounts for the decreased value of a repaired vehicle.

sorry to be this way but your comment about my son being at fault and my insurance premiums increase Is completely DUMB!

If the hood and/or fenders are damaged, I'd say it's pretty close to totaled.

The rear end has bent quarter panels and a bent floor pan. That means one/both quarters will have to be cut out, replaced, and blended to the front of both doors. Of course, the trunk and bumper will, too. The floor pan may need to be cut out and sourced from a donor vehicle or have a brand new one welded in.

The front bumper can be replaced without blending, but the hood and fenders cannot. If the hood is damaged, that means every single panel on the vehicle will be repainted besides the roof.

A bent/deformed hood will likely mean it's totaled. I'd personally be happy to have this one totaled with that much damage to both ends of the vehicle. A new Selma M4 bumper can be painted and installed on a future donor car.

Also a note to make, most manufacturers have "absolutely no repairs or replacements here" spots. For example, the manufacturer I work for will total a car 100% of the time if it has damage in a specific area of the roof or a specific area in the rear wheel wells.

If you would like to have a shop give a proper estimate, I'd go to a local BMW shop that also is certified by Aston Martin. That's always my go-to answer because Aston babysits every one of their shops to make sure they are doing the right thing.

Thanks - I am definitely going to make sure I get a quote form a BMW certified shop.

It might be totaled, hopefully it is. I can see you have a replica M4 bumper as that is not an M4. With that age and mileage I've seen CPO for around $24K. Is the rear bumper also replica? If you have the original bumpers that may reduce the repair cost but there may be frame damage.

Yeah that is an odd statement to say the least... your son has nothing to worry about at all.

At this point you’re better off if it is totaled... the diminished value of the car after front and rear damage will kill the resale value.

That sucks! Sorry bout that...good luck

As you stated this is 2014 but you only had for 5 months, where did you buy it from?

A BMW Dealer? CPO?

Bet you have counterfeit airbags.

I agree. If the airbags were replaced, was the car in another major accident? Could you have a salvage or "rebuilt salvage" title?

Yes, Dealer CPO -
Praying I don't have to fight a total.

No - no accidents on this prior - at least according to CarFax - this was a CPO - so I assume it was manufacturer airbag

Beware that a clean CarFax and CPO is far from a guarantee that the car has not been in a prior accident, or sustained damage that would not qualify it for CPO. If anything, I would have a place independent from where you bought it inspect it.
Granted this only happened three times, but without fail the second body shop I've brought the same car to found out that the first body shop had made a mess of that first repair, and one of them was a BMW Certified Collision Center.

Clean Carfax means nothing. Nor does a CPO mean all parts parts are OEM.

Not to say your son is at fault in this accident, but I had a similar accident about 15 years ago and even though the car that rear ended me knocked me into the car in front of me I was still assigned 50% fault because the driver who rear ended me changed their story (between what they told the police versus what they told their insurance company) of what happened. So the insurance companies blamed us both. Still mad about it to this day. Hope it doesn’t happen to you.

Sorry, I hope your son is ok? Were there any witnesses- did the car in front see anything? What did the police say on fault? I had similar front end damage and it was circa $4500. The rear end looks much worst, i wonder if there is frame damage? Others will know but red must be really hard to match 4 years in too. More often than not if airbags deploy car gets totaled.

Assume no open reals on the bags? There probably on 2013 models! Was the car in a high humidity area?

So smoke under dash and BMW says airbags deployed ... but they didn't? I'd be a whole lot more concerned about that than the body damage ... and frankly I'd never drive that car again. If Insurance won't total it I'd fix it and sell it, not drive it. Good Luck OP!
