Black roof

I've got a sweet deal on getting my roof dressed up in black film. My detailer wanted to have a reference car, showing what he is capable of doing. I think I'll let him do it, if I don't like it, I can always take it off.

He could also use carbon fibre look film, but that's too much M3 wannabe. I'll pick black, but I'm not sure if I'm gonna take glossy or matte finish?

What do you guys think?

i would choose glossy because it will match the rest of the black parts of the car better IMO

What kind of materials are used?

Is it the same kind of film used for tinted windows?

Is it guaranteed to be resistant to sun's heat, heavy rain, etc and for approx. how long?

He said it's like the film used on taxi cars, but it has better quality. I saw it on a Rang Rover completely transformed to white at his shop and it looked perfect. The only problem is sharp edges and corners, that's no problem with the roof. And as said, it's removable.

I will post pics, I have an appointment at Sept. 3.

I have seen carbon film from 3M that looked like E92 M3 Carbon roof.. Really cool if done properly.

I know, but it doesn't feel right to add something that's supposed to be lighter...

Where did you find them online? Any high-res pics available?

It would be nice to get a feedback from the owner of this car to know if this roof was painted in black or if they used one of these black films....

Fake carbon fiber roof sounds terrible Also I find it odd that most ppl are reccomending glossy considering a matte finish is much more sporty...I think a light gloss would be best, I'm interested in what you are paying too, black roof overlays for 135i are going for $85

Interesting effect. I don't hate it like I was expecting to.
I think matte would look too much like it was just sun damaged, especially on a roof. You're right about the CF. If it's not real it's pathetic.
