A new definition in Premium Style. BMW 3er Coupe and Cabrio

A new definition in Premium Style. BMW 3er Coupe and Cabrio.

The latest Autobild features the next generation BMW 3er Cabrio in it's news pages. Although it remains an interpretation using inside information , although not exact it offers an insight into the final appearance of the car.

What is known about the next generation model F32 and F33?
The adaption of using a different exterior to the sedan , established with the E92 continues to the next platform as this has allowed the E92 to be BMW's must successful interpretation of an executive compact sports coupe.

What is going to seperate the car further will be the inclusion of different shapes for the headlights and rear lights and further sculpture for the lower flanks along the body.
The headlights will incorporate the new look for Coupe's which will be seen with the new 6er and have the main unit with a recessed opening underneath which will incorporate the front indicators. Allowing more a dramatic front profile to distinguish the car from the sedan.

The headlights are sharper and recessed to characterise the new 3er family bloodline beginning with the incoming F25 X3. The kidney Grille becomes sharper around the edges of the outline but where the two grilles meet there is slight rounded edges.
The inclusion of a V-shape allows additional ledges underneath the headlight units to form the air intakes for each side of the car , a trapezoid shape central intake which is shallower because of the inclusion of larger kidney grilles.

The rising line which appears at the bottom of the CS Concept , 7er and now the Gran Coupe and 6er is not as dramatic. The line remains in the lower flanks but instead of rising upwards to the wheel arch it adds a triangular shape stretching the length but decreasing in width as it flows to the rear wheel arch.

A Dramatic sloping line that breaks over the rear wheel arch adds depth a muscle to the rear of the car as similar with the 6er , the line then continues in dramatic fashion towards the front wheel arch. Similar to the upcoming X3.

The rear of the car will again like the E92 break away from convention and be different to the sedan. Whereas the new sedan receives a typical BMW L-shape design to provide continuity. The new 3er Coupe and Cabrio will retain a new stylish look inspired by the current car.
With the characterline melting into the rear headlights allowing a dramatic angular shape at the upper and lower edges. The upside down L-Shape at the top edge is rounder as the bootlid sits on top with the bottom edge in the licence plate recess sharper. A design line surrounds the upper units rear corner forming the the top edge of the bootlid forming a typical conclusion of BMW design.

The current BMW 3er Cabrio has been a huge success for BMW , especially with the inclusion of a folding Hard Top. Which has seen sales increase for the cabrio. Whether it is too early to say whether the F33 will retain a hardtop , It does not look likely the hardtop will be ditched especially when BMW installed a multi-million euro facility to build and fit Hardtops at it's Regensburg works.

Whilst not exact , proportionally incorrect and basic it gives an idea of how the new car will look.

Tii will be resurrected for the next generation of BMW 1er and 3er .

The BMW 1er Sporthatch will get a GTi competitor in the shape of a 3dr Tii which will offer an enhanced Turbocharged Petrol Four cylinder and Four cylinder diesel with output of about 240PS.
There will also be a Tii 1er Coupe...

Scott, just curious, have you given any proof that you actually work at BMW? I'm just curious what your job title would be? Thanks for all the info.

So if the Tii will be resurrected for the next generation 1er, does that mean the M1 mule will be called the M1?

Will there be an 3dr/5dr hatch M model?

If Tii will get diesel could this mean the 3dr/5dr M hatch could get diesel too? You have mentioned M going diesel before.

Cheers,

Mark.

Very interesting direction, it would seem this will be the most angular looking 3 series since the E36? The drawing seem to make it more angular then the original E90.

It is not only BMW that shapes their car bodies to be less smooth lately - most car companies are now introducing angularity. Some of the new designs are interesting.

I thought you would like to see the original photos from the AutoBild article. I was grcoery shopping today and saw the magazine. Some interesting stuff! Enjoy!

From AutoBild April 23rd, 2010 magazine Scott26 talks about…

Thanks for posting. But I do not believe all that is said. It it was true, today we would have the BMW Z8 with 550 hp V10.

I read autobild occasionally (Well, I look at the pictures, since I speak almost 0 German). They have some good stuff, but tend to be a little fanciful with their predictions and renderings. For example, I doubt that BMW will be building a 1er Sportvan anytime soon. But, hey, BMW has proven me wrong before, and seems determined to fill every niche.

You are right when you say "BMW....seems determined to fill every niche", but you have to add "exept the one of supercars".

The rumour is that there will be no M6- but that a rival to the R8 will be made as a halo for the range.

Scott, could you tell us anything about splitting the 3 series on 3 series for the sedan/touring and 4 series for coupe/cabrio models? In the "5 and 6 series" way. There have been rumors in the past about this in bmw's marketing department...
