Great Video Review of 2012 328i (F30). Impressive Acceleration and Gear Changes

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Autospies shares their very comprehensive and excellent video review of the F30 328i, powered by the N20 4 cylinder 2.0L turbo engine. In their experience, they feel that the 3 series once again delivers a knockout punch to its competitors from Audi, MB, and Lexus.

Especially impressive in the video is a look at how quickly the new 8 speed automatic transmission shifts.

Damn, impressive downshifting... I'm curious to see the tech specs of the new transmission versus the old 6-speed ZF (which for many years seems to have been the best non-DCT auto transmission out there...)

From my experience having owned 2 335i with zf6speed, and recently driven the z4 with zf8sport(same as the f30 will have) it is a noticeable improvement...like a holy ****, made me switch from manual to auto

Here are some links to info:
Car & Driver sidebar - IIRC from the issue with the initial F10 review
ZF page with ~7min video - note: shifts in 200ms

Pretty impressive overall. This will probably be my most difficult decision - 6MT or 8AT - when I order my M-Sport at the end of the summer.

Car looks great, I'm sure it handles great, has loads of technology and is an overall improvement over the current E90 328. However, the engine just doesn't sound as smooth or refined. I was really excited for this engine (haven't actually driven one yet) but after hearing it on there it's kind of a let-down.

I drove the N20...what it lacks in refinement, it more than makes up for it with the performance(especially the torque wow!) and efficiency. The N52 was a thing of beauty. But if you drove the car not knowing it was the N20, i dont think you would realize its a 4banger. The torque was really strong.

Sounds ok, not great. It doesn't seem like it wants to have fun like the I-6 does - like it's just going through the motions. I'll have to drive it to find out.

It's a 4-cylinder?!!? #mindblown

But on a serious note, it looks so responsive and the sound is pretty darn good for a 4-cylinder engine.

The shifts are really fast.. But the overall the car looks ugly to me and the design on the inside looks like a running shoe. Did anyone see the headrests for the back seats? Yuck...... Not a fan at all.

I think the rear headrests fold down when not in use

Excellent review of a great car.
No love for the red interior trim though.

No BMWs sound good anymore, they are just too quiet. I've had to get an exhaust on each of my E90s to get them to sound good. My E46 coupe sounded great right from the factory.

And it's not the engines that don't sound good, it's BMWs exhaust tuning, or lack there of.

Liking it more and more everyday. Still not feeling the red accent stripe interior but in the end the deal breaker will be the steering. If it's very close to the E90; then I will buy.

The more I see and hear about this car the more I fall in love with it. This might be one of the best 3-series to date

BMW is advancing in an eco-conscious world like no one else. Subaru did it, but they gave up horsepower for economy. BMW did it, and they made no compromise, even on the sound of the motor. This is how the world should be advancing.

I personally like the red accents a lot. It makes it feel like you're in a powerhouse of a sports car.

From the sound of that 4-cyl, I would have guessed it was a 6-cyl. It sounds just like my ZHP on the inside.

Probably the first non-top gear/fifth gear review that I thought was actually helpful (but maybe that's just because I already know about the car/own an E90).

I don't like the rear end. Besides that I think it's great. Hopefully there will be ways to pull decent power out of that turbo and make an entry MT 328 especially good value for those who want a bit more power without the 335 price.

BMW is screwing E9X owners by making the F3X way too good in comparison.

Hulk smash! Hulk want!

That car is absolutely wonderful, and the only thing I would change is the red trim. Gloss black, baby!
