2012 Detroit NAIAS: BMW Active Hybrid 3 Makes Auto Show Debut
BIMMERPOST NEWS 2012 Detroit NAIAS: BMW Active Hybrid 3 Makes Auto Show Debut Here's another highlight of the 2012 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), the Active Hybrid 3. Seen here in Modern Line configuration, the Active Hybrid 3 combines BMW's smooth 3.0l N55 inline 6 and an electric motor for a maximun output of 335hp and 450Nm. It does 0-62mph in less than 5.9 seconds and returns 37 miles to the gallon. To further improve mpg there's also an intelligent navigation system to optimize your routes for a hybrid. Unlike other hybrids the Actibe Hybrid 3 doesn't compromise boot capacity too much (390 liters). There's no word on pricing yet, but if the just-announced pricing for the Active Hybrid 5 is any hint we'd expect it to be in the ballpark of $ 50,000. The Active Hybrid 3 will be available in Fall 2012. |

335 hp sounds nice enough, although I would have hoped for more They should offer a debadging option just like the one with the line badges and with the model designation, I wouldn't want Active hybrid 3 written all over my car in every angle.
Plz BMW don't fall in the Enivronmentally-friendly-cars-must-have-butt-ugly-wheels pit. I know it reduces drag but still. |

hate the lower part of the bumper. Could they not have left it closer to the E90? If I blur my vision, I could mistaken it for an Audi.

I doubt that it will offer a worthwhile economic improvement over a 335 because the later already has start stop.

With the added weight of the batteries and motor, it winds up being about as fast as the 328i (5.9s 0-60).

I think it looks like somebody smeared Nutella all over the dashboard.

ActiveHybrid 5 pricing is announced: http://www.bimmerfest.com/news/592813/bmw-announces-pricing-for-the-2012-activehybrid-5--starting-at-$61,845/
AH5 - $60,950 (before destination charge) 535i - $52,500 (before destination charge) Premium: $8,450, but it does include Nav & supposedly HUD/black-panel, which are $1900 & $1300, respectively. So, only $5,350 more than a 535i with those options. |
