On my 2017 340i xDrive, pulling on right paddle for 1-2 secs will return it into D if it was in a gear previously selected by paddle shift. Pulling on left paddle for 1-2 secs will downshift into lowest gear possible.

It's a 2017 change. When I picked up my F31 in Munich the delivery guy advised me of the change. He said most BMW driver's disliked the stalk always bouncing back to center position and caused driver confusion to learn. Therefore the axed it.

I had the new style in my 2013 X3 and it did take me a bit to get comfortable with it but fine once I had.

I'm indifferent about the function but the old way does seem better functionally.

I know this is on here buried on somewhere, but the favorite thing I've learned this year is the extra push that opens the sunroof as much as possible. Let the sunroof open completely and then push back the button/slider again and you'll get an extra bit of sunshine.

Today I was in the trunk and found out where the battery and fuses are! And also some handy tools like a screwdriver that has Philips and Flathead as well as the tow hook.

There is also a button on the trunk itself to open it.

In another thread I learned the 1-8 buttons could be programmed as anything.

Anyone else find other interesting/neat things?

Hold down traction control until t says DSC off - you’ll disable all drivers assistance and really get a feeel for the car.

This is not the case in the USA--Sport Suspension or no.

Also a very useful feature....if you hold down the voice commands button for about two seconds, you can actually summon Siri (for IPhone users) instead of the standard BMW system

Yup, I was actually trying to set up CarPlay when I discovered it. I use it a lot now, mostly to book appointments in my calendar.

Auto models. If you have the gear lever in sport and turn off the car. It will automatically return to the centre position and park will be applied by the gearbox. Useful if you forget as the gearbox has done it for you!

I can answer a few:

6. Rocker switch sport mode then select sport displays on i drive.

8. When music is playing use I drive controller to click left (or right depending on country). Left again and you will see 'Tone.' This may apply to no. 3 as well.

I was all excited to get those shortcuts and then I don't even use them lol.

1 - Call Wife (just to please her, but typically I'd just say a voice command)
8 - Stop Guidance (The only one I definitely need)

I guess I just don't use the technology in my car as much as I thought. Mostly I just turn on the car, make sure my music is on, and drive. The only other thing I wish I could do is set a shortcut to switch to surround view. Then I could use a button vs fumbling with the idrive controller when I'm about to back into a parking spot and it defaults to the rear view camera.

Navigate to desired display, such as Vehicle Status. Hold the number you want down for a few secs. All done.
you can hover your finger over each number and it will remind you what preset you have chosen

Yes, and you’ll want to make sure whatever you want to program is highlighted (use your iDrive controller to highlight the item you want to program specifically).

Then hold the number of the button you’d like programmed for that feature.

If you don’t highlight a specific feature, it will sometimes say could not program.

So I threw my gym bag in my trunk the other day and closed the hatch, but then it popped right back open. I checked to make sure everything was clear of the lock, and tried again. It popped up again. I did this about 4 times until I realized my keys were in my bag. Great feature on the car not to lock your keys in your trunk.

BUT...if the car can do this, why can't it auto lock if I forget to hit the button and walk away???

I get a kick out of it all the time .. gives me that mechanical "aircraft trim wheel" feel

While driving, I tried to save Sport settings and it would not accept. Any idea why?

It doesn't have to be in sport, mine does so in all modes. I never shift it to park, unless it's to leave the engine running. Otherwise I just turn off the car.

It only does that with comfort access. Standard access will let you lock the fob in the trunk.

If it did how would you leave the car unlocked when you wanted to?
Related to the first reply, I always have my radio on, and only push the start button once to stop the car, which leaves the radio on. Walking away from the car hearing the radio reminds me to lock the car, which turns the radio off.

what sports settings are you referring to? a lot of options/check boxes can't be saved to a shortcut.
