Not so sure myself but I've concluded it must be one of the below.

A) He thinks he's too good for his car yet wants to show how nice it looks and get compliments.

B) Start an argument about cars.

C) Needs M Performance parts to make it the way he likes.

D) All of the above.

E) None of the above.

+1 about the interior. The M-sport steering wheels looks nice, but the E9x's interior felt more solid while the F3x felt cheaper. Also the E9x's front door has the folding compartment with soft linens. The F3x's doesn't have any and it feels cheap.

i guess i left that a little open , sorry!!

i ordered this car last year in sept before they even had one in the show room. 6sp manual, rear wheel drive, M sport suspension and M sport performance package. Waited 10 weeks for delivery then when it was delivered drove it for a week and parked it for the winter. Come spring the excitement lasted about two weeks.

It just didn't impress me, that kind of money for that car i expected more. So after about 9 months i sold it.

So what car in the same price range impresses you more?

I've previously owned a Porsche Cayman S PDK and 997.2 turbo and am fully impressed with the F30s for the price; I have almost as much fun driving mine on the streets as I did with the P-cars.

These aren't sports cars. They aren't meant to raise your heart rate or any of that BS. They're grand tourers, and they're perfect at that. I've owned some quick cars (and trucks) too (550hp Jeep SRT8, 650hp CTS-V, 630hp X5M, etc.) and the N55 is perfectly suited to these cars. Would an extra 100hp be nice? Sure. Is it necessary? Not really. They're street cars, not racecars.

Same. I own far "better"/more expensive cars and I think my 4 series is a perfect balance between luxury/sportiness/driving feel/comfort/fun factor/etc. for the price, especially for a DD.

The problem isn't with the car, but rather your expectation. Your mistake for thinking it was a performance car.

I absolutely love mine. It's the second best daily beater out there for me right after the M4.

I agree with your assessments, but dropping $60k on a car before seeing it/driving it to make sure it is what you expect?

This was the 3rd car I've bought without ever having driven prior. There nothing that could have reasonably been a deal-breaker in the way the car drove for my needs.

I did the same thing. To this day I still haven't driven a 335. I drove an X1 3.5, a 328 and a 328d, but still no 335, GT or sedan. When you special order cars, you don't always get to drive them before you do so.

I have to agree with you. I left BMW for a 987.2 Cayman a couple years ago because I figured the 2 would bring me back and I wasn't excited about a 3 sedan in the meantime.

I did sort of a test ED with a 420d 6MT M-sport 'vert back in September. 7 countries, 1450 miles and 6 of the 10 best European roads per http://www.ultimatedrives.net/top-10-roads/index.php (Stelio, Furka, Klausen, Hahntennjoch, Route de Gentelly, Col de la Bonnette).

The car was really a great road trip car...6MT and a diesel, about 184hp, 146mph on the Autobahn, and near 50mpg when not pushing it. However, I went onto bmw.de to spec the thing out...65000 EUROS!!! I can totally see owning a car like this...if my entire life revolved around driving country roads through Europe on an endless budget, endless vacation (of course, then there would be other vehicle options).

In the real world it just didn't deliver for the money. From a practicality standpoint, it's just too big and bulky. From a fun standpoint, it's slow (which, admittedly, can be remedied with a different engine choice) and soft (which cannot). It's super luxurious, comfortable and attractive...but again, life is not an endless grand tour.

When I got home, I got lucky and the local dealer had a 228i M-sport, track package, 6MT that was ordered but the buyer walked. I thought this would be my chance to drive my next car...my ED, 10 country, Nurburgring, Monaco Grand Prix, Normandy Beach, Versailles, etc., bucket list car. Then I drove it. It was quick - I got one insanely good launch, it was tighter than the 4, and all around a great car. It certainly felt much better than the 2015 GTI I drove. But it just didn't feel like a BMW. It felt soft. I didn't use sport+, just sport, but it felt soft.

Now, I can see how coming from a Porsche the BMWs should feel less tight, but they don't feel like they used to. This puts me in a real conundrum...I don't want to keep putting 15k miles a year on the Cayman and I really want to get a little better mileage, but I really don't know where to go...my go-to brand isn't so go-to anymore.

On Monday I test drove a Ford Fiesta ST...I figured if every review I read was equally nuts about it, there had to be some "there" there. There was. It was probably the best new car for the money I've ever driven...it just needs 50 more hp for me to get really excited about it.

Anyway, end of long rant...OP, I totally get where you're coming from.

I agree that with the non M the previous gen interior felt nicer and a bit more solid. The new M3/M4 feel much more luxurious than the e90/e92 M3 though.

I actually like interior on f30 more than previous generations myself.
Only thing I will miss is, well, the screaming high revvying engine on the M cars.

Sure you can. You just have to wait until they come to the lots then test drive one and order the way you want it. Still a special order and less risk of ordering something that you may not be happy with. Hell I would not even buy a set of shoes online without trying them one first. I can't fathom buying a car before driving it a couple times first.

With this generation... Almost all dealership has no F3X with DHP equipped cars for test drive. So seriously.... No point of test drive.

+1. But I think we need to make a distinction between "quick" and "fast." "Fast" is faster than "quick"…. The 335, E90 or F30, absolutely is quick. Is it fast? Well, I'm old enough to still think anything that gets to 60 in less than 5 seconds and has decent 1/4 mile times is still fast, despite how many other cars do the same these days. With so many cars doing that, and true sports cars doing much better, I can understand some not calling it fast anymore. But, at the very least, any sane person would still consider this car "quick."

Beyond that, I echo the sentiment that it's meant to be a daily driver and most of us don't drive daily on a track. Even if it's only quick, not fast.. it's still faster than I need for every day driving where I live. This was true as true when I spent 140 miles a day on the turnpike as it is now that I drive mostly locally.

Quick is the rate at which it gets up to speed.
Fast is the maximum rate of speed.

Fair enough... But most people use them interchangeably in reference to cars and their performance, since they are in fact synonyms. As such, for the sake of argument, I've often heard people describe something as "quick" to indicate it is not slow, but not particularly "fast" either… I was making a distinction that the F30 does not have to hold its own with a Carrera GT to be considered "quick."
