Thumbs up F30 335i Auto Stop Start stall service bulletin (SIB TSB)

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Auto Start-Stop Fix:

BMW has released software to fix any of the early 335i F30 that had a problem where the engine sometimes stalled after the Auto Stop/Start system tried to restart. Problem was a calibration error. BMW cites an unfavorable DME software application as the source of the issue. It affects cars produced from 11/2/2011 to 2/29/2012.

USA members, refer your dealer to "SIB 12 06 12" (Service bulletin 10 12 00 09 00)

Cars built from March 2012 on should not have these problems.

Headrest Fix:
EDIT: Sorry, there was a typo on the list, this is another fix, not the one for headrests not going low enough

BMW if you are reading, I need a job

You're already doing a great job for BMW - they just need to start paying you now!

Anyway, thanks for all your helpful input!

Can we get a BMW liaison who just does this for a job? Because this was very helpful even though I haven't picked up my car from the dealer yet so it won't have these issues... thanks for lookin' out!

Every new model has problems regardless of the brand. If you want to be among the first to own it, then that's the price you have to pay.

Every car has issues in the first few years of the model. The best model year to buy is the final year where most or all kinks have been worked out but nobody wants to buy the final year because after a year you feel that your new car is now out dated.

If BMW USA wants to give me a green card I will do the job.

Thanks E90Fleet. Could you tell me where you found this out? The head rest issue exists with the F10 and I would like to know what the fix would be.

Sorry, the headrest fix i received had a typo, its not for the minimum setting problem, but for a maximum setting problem.

If I find something for the F10 I will let you know

This sucks. Although the occasional stalling does not bother me my wife is borrowing my car this weekend because I will be using her van out of town and she is going to freak if it stalls. These updates also can take forever.

Has anyone done this update and how long has it taken?

Thanks.

I am a bit leery of start stop. At least there is a button to turn it off.

It depends how many modules on the car dont have the latest software.

They cannot just load the latest engine software, the system automatically looks for any module on the car with old software and updates it.

Manufacturers always brag about the millions of hours of testing that go into these cars, so I dont understand how these issues dont come up while they are testing the cars. I can understand long term issues or some other rarities, but a car stalling should be very evident at the testing stage.

Microsoft of the car world. Driving down the parkway and the car reboots for no reason.

Although I can relate to this in some ways. The code goes through many revisions and I have seen minor code changes causes dependancy code to fail. It happens. The price we pay for high tech autos.

I experienced it riding in a friends CR-Z, I sure hope BMW's is smoother because I didn't like it at all. You would think a hybrid would start off on battery power and then the engine would kick back in but no, right off the get go and it was kinda rough, every time...
