Auto start stop time limit? Premature start?

I like a lot of things about my F30, but her A.S.S. is hard to love.

One of the quirks I've noticed is that there is a time limit to how long the engine stays shut off. I would be at a stop light, the engine would go the ready mode. And before I press the clutch or do anything to restart engine it would do so on its own usually after 1 minute.

Anyone have similar experience? If the car has such a short time limit, why bother even using it?

I did have the air conditioner on and I wonder if that causes it to restart?

Well cabin temperature is one of the triggers for a restart, so that is likely the reason. I've certainly had it happen to me, so I know that it does this for sure. There is a post somewhere here with a long list of triggers. Pressing the brake harder will trigger a start.

I did notice this too. It's like it can detect the stop light to turn green already. It is about a minute before it starts buy itself. Good thing is i haven't had any A.S.S. issues.

I sometimes turn my A/C off when I expect to be stopped for more than 30 seconds in my 1 Series to prevent the engine starting up again, as in the UK climate the weather is rarely hot enough for the cabin to heat up much in a few minutes but the engine still seems to turn back on to keep the cabin temperature low.

It's definitly demand of the climate control. I left mine off the other day, and sat at a light for over 2 minutes and the car never tried to restart on its own.

To verify, you can go to the Efficient Dynamics menu, and it will tell you the reason the car isn't off. In full screen on cars with nav it spells it out (demand for climate contol too high), in split screen it just shows an icon, and I'm not sure what shows on a non-nav car. The only two things I've seen it display when running are climate control demand and request by driver (as in you restarted it on purpose).

Yes, the climate control system will kick the engine back on if the cable heats up or cools down too much while the engine is off. I've gotten used to it.

There are actually several things that could cause it to come back on. There is, as far as I know, no time limit though. Besides the A/C, another thing that can cause it to turn back on is the battery, if it's off too long, it will also come back on in order to prevent it to empty the battery

Note: Many PM me for links to the software needed to code. Please note that I do not have download links to this software. Your best bet is using the search function in the coding thread
