Adaptive M Suspension vs Sport suspension

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before as I couldn't find it ; is the sport suspension (704) the same firmness as the Adaptive M suspension in its "sport setting "?

So , in other words, if you spec the sport suspension is it the same experience as having the Adaptive M suspension in its sport setting full time? ( of course I understand that other parameters are changed when the sport button is pressed but I'm only talking about suspension).

Any literature that explains this guys?

In the Adaptive M, is it two settings; comfort and sport ?

Thanks in advance

I heard AdaptiveM firm is firmer than sport. It also has a sport+ mode, but I think that's just to let you set different options separately, no extra firm.

704 & adaptive M share the same springs & ARBs (confirmed by cross checking part numbers on the ETK), only difference is in the damping rates due to the different dampers.
Even if 704 is softer than the adaptive M in sport setting it's only very slightly softer (that is a big if), cos adaptive M in sport setting still offers acceptable ride quality on bad roads.

Difference between Sport+ & Sport is just the case of switching off ESP & switching on the eLSD. Nothing else changes.

I believe sport and sport plus can also be configured how you want them, steering and damping if I'm not mistaken.

The only difference between sport & sport+ is the latter switches off ESP & switches on eLSD.
U can customise sport setting if either VDC or VSS is fitted.

How can you customize the sport setting with the Variable Sport Steering? Isn't it just a variable ratio and not adjustable ?

steering gets stiff and adaptive M gets really firm. I have VSS and Adaptive M with H&R Sport.

might be a bit off topic and may spark an argument with e90 fans but to me the VSS in sport mode feels firmer than the e90 steering.

Here is another thread on Adaptive M

Adaptive M adjusts the suspension as you drive and the mode that you are in. Sport suspension is the same setting no matter whether you are in sport or sport +. Those settings only adjust throttle and steering on sport suspension. on Adaptive M those settings also adjust the suspension

No, the ratio is variable according to steering lock & not the car's speed. The weighing is changed when u change driving modes.

Since the RWD version of the 335i M Sport already comes standard with Sport Suspension (704) which has a drop of 10mm, does that mean upgrading to the Adaptive M Suspension (2VF) will drop an additional 10mm for 20mm total drop from the base model? I am guessing no...

I have the exact same question. Does Adaptive M drop it to a total of 20mm?

No. Adaptive M is dampers only and the springs are the same springs which i believe are M Sport springs that are found on sport and M Sport.

Someone will have to look up the part numbers for each spring set, but I believe you are correct that the springs and/or spring rates are the same.
The difference between each "system" is that the sport suspension has fixed damping on compression and rebound.
The Adaptive M has dampers where the compression and/or rebound valve circuits can "change" based on setting, and the system can "read" the road surface and adjust valving accordingly.

Does anyone know if the sport/M sport springs are straight rate or progressive?

They have the same part numbers according to the BMWETK spring table.

Seems odd that M-Sport suspension is an option on the M-Sport line. The paragraph at the top of the configurator is misleading.

Quote:
Bring the unrivaled power of M to your 3 Series Sedan with the M Sport Line.
Unique design touches include:

M Aerodynamic Kit
M Sport Steering Wheel
M Sport wheels and suspension
Exclusive M Sport colors and trims
M Sports Seats
Forgive me if I'm asking a question that has already been answered and this may be due to BMW's confusing configurations. But I understand this thread to be about sport suspension and adaptive M suspension. In the quote above, BMW mentions M suspension as included. If there is no difference between regular sport and M-Sport suspension, why mention it? Just talk about the wheels. Also, could M-Sport be different than Adaptive M?

its just marketing speak = BMW convincing stupid people that they're getting something special when they're really not

only way to get adaptive Msport suspension is to add on separately, which i have yet to see on the website ...

It is idiotic poorly done marketing.

The Sport line gets the sport suspension, non adaptive.
With Msport, they call the same suspension "M sport suspension".
It's a distinction with no difference.

You can get the "adaptive" suspension OPTION in either one.

They even claim "exclusive Msport COLORS, as if there is more than just estoril. "Colors" is plural, estoril is the ONLY Msport exclusive color.
And "exclusive trim" means, 'lack of choice'.

I understand the if you get the M Performanve Suspension, then the total drop will be 20mm (an extra 10 for Performane). I am not sure the M Performance Suspension is even available yet, let alone an option you could get new from the factory yet.
