New DME Update and No ASS in Sport

Anybody know why BMW killed ASS in Sport Mode with the new software update?

ASS is so non-intrusive in the 6MT, and I don't relish the idea of driving around in Comfort Mode just so it can be used.

I thought it automatically switched off when in sport mode. Never actually tried engaging once I was in sport.

How's the new steering feel by the way?

did they change the steering feel in sport mode through an update? I just got my car back and also noticed the ASS doesn't trigger in sport mode.

My sport mode steering does feel a bit heavier...

I think so, and it seems comfort throttle and steering better too. But I rarely used Comfort so it could be psychosomatic.

Also notice when you do use ASS, it's really smooth now. Much smoother than my 9/12 build and smoother than the current 6/13 build was initially--which was also smoother than the first car.

Interesting, yeah I got it back from the dealer yesterday and when I put it in sport mode, I could tell something was different. Steering felt heavier. Thought SA didn't mention anything about DME update and the details for it.

Yeah nothing said to me either and for a minute I thought something was wrong with the ASS. Then I remembered somebody on another thread had mentioned it doesn't work in Sport anymore.

I'm curious to see what else changed though with the new DME.

Yes but I have a 6MT. ASS worked in any mode.

I wish the would just kill ASS with fire. And then gouge its eyes out and feed them to swine flu-infected monkeys. Wo also have butt rashes. And restless foot syndrome. That's all.

So yeah, pretty stoked they disabled it. )))

My A.S.S. doesn't do sport mode either, but I'm not as young as I used to be

Seriously, MY2014, 11/13 build, no updates, A.S.S. has always been off in sport mode. Makes sense to me. During my daily drive when I use sport mode it's because I'm doing a difficult merge or left turn and want some power on tap. Having the engine turn off just wouldn't inspire confidence.

Yeah! That was the first thing I noticed when I got my car back from the dealer after the "limp mode" fix...

Now I change to comfort at a light and switch to sport before pulling away... REALLY annoying...

I've never had any issues with ASS and don't mind it at all.

I was also wondering with the 6MT, if the drive modes really make that much of a difference, since you manually shift the gears. I mean if you are cruising at 70mph in 6th does Eco/comfort/sport/sport+ vary the mpg? I know that it will when accelerating to speed, but once at speed.... does it really matter?

As far as I can tell, the driving modes just change the pedal feel in my 6speed. When it's in sport, the steering feels a little heavier and the gas is more responsive. When it's in eco, you've got to really stomp on the pedal in order for it go.

I just got mine back from a service last week. I'm assuming the DME was updated as I immediately felt the stiffer steering in Sport. I don't mind it, just had to put it in comfort when reverse parking in a parkade or use two hands to turn the wheel

My ASS never worked in Sport Mode, which I agree, is frustrating (its a non-issue with a 6MT).

I think we really should consider referring to the Auto Start Stop as something other than ASS. Maybe we can call it SS? or just AS? I wonder if this was a really really bad inside joke on BMW's part.

Something very uncomfortable about a bunch of dudes talking about their ASSes, and ASSes that aren't working as well as they have in the past. Especially in sport mode? WTH?
