Angry Dealer forgot to remove shipping blocks!!!

Last week I received my new 320i. I realised that the suspension was crazy stiff. I drove about a 100 km and it was worse than a truck! Something was definitely wrong. Took it to the service and they said unfortunately we forgot to remove the shipping blocks when we gave you the car. Omg!

They took the car today to service for damage check. Do you think that these plastic blocks could have given any damage to the car? Should I request a new car?

If the dealer forgot to remove these blocks. I would not trust them at all, go to another dealership they are crap.

Wow, that's a new one... I really don't know if this would cause a problem, but I have to agree about taking it to another dealer or mechanic... Your dealer has such a strong incentive to not find a problem that it would be hard to know for sure that you're getting an objective evaluation...

Hope everything works out!

I just received the car from the service. They gave me a millimetric alignment report, showing that everything is in normal range. They also said that there is no damage at all. Probably I will take it the another mechanic just to make sure. However, I am so dissatisfied with BMW. I talked with the dealer to change the car with another one. They said that there is no damage to the car, hence it is not possible to change it. Don't know what to do. Maybe I will write to BMW Munich about this issue.

What could happen?

Some do the same to their springs just to lower it --- Volvos in the eighties

It feels like people are claiming a new vehicle for almost anything nowadays. You just wait and see what happens with the car. I hade the tail gate of my E61 painted due to rust when the car was one year old. Shit happens.

IMO not a lot can happen. It's just some plastic blocks between the springs. This raises the car height a bit to make it easier to drive it on a lorry. No worries.

Nothing should have been damaged unless you got in a big pothole or any other big shock that would have noticed.

The shipping blocks are there to prevent the car from bottoming during transit. No damage would be done if they're left there, & if anything the blocks will break first before anything is damaged.

If the dealer has checked the alignment and inspected for damage, sounds very reasonable to me. If there is further issue, (which I can't see how), you are still under warranty.

IMO, the suspension will get a far harder time from a bit of hard driving over poor roads and a few potholes, in the next few thousand kilometers, than 100Kms on blocks.

Getting a little ridiculous. What's next, "the car had rain on it when I got it, so I asked for a different car?"

Ok ok I got it It is my first new BMW and I worried a lot! I thought that these blocks may have damaged the suspensions. That is why I asked you guys if a change is necessary. I mean, wouldn't you want your car to be changed, if you've received a damaged 0km BMW? Thanks to your replies, now I know there is nothing to worry about.

This is not what you would expect from BMW. I know the feeling; my wife had exactly the same issue.... but with a VW Polo Eco which has already a harder suspension by default, so at first the dealer said it was normal, until he noticed the shipping blocks..... dealer embarrassed....... luckyly no damage.....

Exactly, I am really disappointed. First day when I received the car, there were 3 of my friends and I in the car. The car was getting all the bumps from the road and beleive me it was like someone hitting us from the bottom with a fist. Maybe there is no damage in the car for the moment, who knows maybe in the future something will show up.

Yes. I think the point we were making is that they've proven there is no damage though. I don't disagree you should have it checked somewhere else to be sure, but as long as there's no damage, don't see a reason waste your time and energy writing to BMW, that's all.

Look at it positively... the OP had a chance to try the 'slammed' suspension feel for a few miles, without the underside of the car hitting the ground.

Obviously a big mistake at the garage, probably very red faced, done their part to ensure it is all OK... let's remember we are all human.

Of course we don't expect it, but mistakes do happen. Plus as I said before, the car is under warranty and this incident has been logged, so I say just go out and enjoy.
