Xdrive and issues

So been doing someverything reading tonight about bmw and the xdrive.

Did they use to be prone to transfer case failures and motor failure. All posts seems to be pointed to 2013 or less but wanted to see if these issues have been rectified etc

Or are these issues few and far between and not worth worrying about

No problems with mine. I'm not even aware that I have it other than when I can go through snow when no one else can.

How many miles on the odometer and were you running staggered or square wheels?

25000 miles and staggered setup.
Just to add. The car is now changed ownership and has moved on to a friend. It currently has a little over 75000 miles and sees regular track use on staggered and square tires.
He loves it.

So it would appear as long as you don't run staggered. It's pretty safe and issues are few and far between

I have staggered 18"s on my 2014 wagon.....25000 miles.

I'll report back if anything negative happens.

I assume you're asking about staggered or square setup because it might lead to nominal changes in effective tire diameter?

I've always wondered about this and whether or not a small amount of difference in overall rolling surface diameter would lead to excessive wear/tear on the diff/transfer case/transmission components.

Just based on what I thought I knew about offroad and 4WD vehicles, this is primarily a concern when the wheels are not allowed to slip relative to each other.

You'd think that on a road with bumps/dirt/wet surfaces etc, there would be frequent enough slip 'opportunity' periodically between wheels for any binding to be released, as long as the differences are nominal.

But maybe I don't know what I'm talking about...

Not sure what you have been reading, but staggered wheel sets in them selves are not the issue. Historically there have been issues when deviating from BMW OE approved tyres (or non standard sizes) on staggered setups, on some xDrive models.

Total nonsense............
F30 xDrive vehicles are sold with OEM staggered 19" wheels. There are no issues whatsoever with staggered OEM wheels and xDrive-trains.

You'll see very few xDrive problem posts on forums like this. Problems are few and far between.

What are the BMW OE sizes?

If you deviate from BMW approved sizes, that is where you will likely have warranty implications, if you have an xDrive drivetrain issue. You can be almost certain BMW will be looking at the wheel/tyre sizes, as the first check for causes.
