Plates
It depends on if your state requires you to only have one plate or not. I believe of the states surrounding Illinois, Indiana is the only state that issues one plate. I can almost bet if a vehicle is seen from one of the states that requires two plates, the officer will probably at least check to see if the plates and vehicle match.

Just wanted to add in case it wasn't already covered... if you park in the city of Chicago, the meter maids are authorized to take pictures of your car front & back and issue you a ticket for not having a front plate.
If this happens to you, there is really no way out of it as they upload the pictures to the city's website and they are time-stamped when the ticket was issued. Ask me how I know... |

Also we have plenty of no-front-platers here, you'd have a great time! I only run mine since it was pre-drilled, the LEos here are less than concerned with them or window tint here. Just don't do anything to make yourself stand out and you can drive by them around here all day long. Pretty relaxed here compared to there I guess. |

Not to get to technical, but the vehicle code specifies you have to display a current plate. I had one guy in my area run the same numbers, but had the older style of plate. I kept trying to tell him he had to use the current design. He didn't believe me. One of our Secretary of State Police investigators made a believer out of him. Oh, and a 120 dollars poorer. |

None of my cars have their front plates on them. I haven't been stopped once for it in about a decade of living in Illinois. I've even received a speeding ticket with no mention of the lack of my front plate. If they're going to stop you for that, I figure it was inevitable.
Then again, I do live in the suburbs, but I commute to the city every day.
