How is the air conditioning in the F30 compared to the E90 or even the E46?

How do BMW AC's compare to other brands in general?

It's spring here in Australia and can get quite hot during the summer. I hope the F30 is up to scratch!

My X5 is amazing even on 40 degree days (I'm in Australia ) never fails to blow chilled cold air and the huge cabin size doesn't seem to bother it. Compared to the fords and Holden's at work, your money is well invested in BMW air con. My F30 arrives in 3 weeks or less and I assume it should be just as good.

i hate my f30 air conditioning, it sounds like a whole separate motor comes on to blow the air. completely different than the f01 750 i have

I find the AC in my '13 F30 no different than my '09 E90 or '07 E90 rides. I think it's better than the AC in other car brands in the family (MB, GM, VW, Ford) for maintaining temperature in the car (including the back seats with the adjustment) as well as doing a bit of a better job of regulating driver side vs. passenger side temperature differences. I caught that example the other day when my side was set warmer and (unknowing to me) the passenger side was set very low. When I made a right turn all tha cool air from the passenger side shifted left and I noticed the difference. Pretty neat.

My F30 A/C is great. It's the best 3-series A/C I've had so far. Gets really cold fast and I can't feel the compressor kick on or off.

I tried Auto mode, but found it too annoying. I leave it on manual and it works just fine.

I had a 2006 E90 and I felt like I was slow roasting in the Arizona sun for 7 months out of the year. Part of that was my own fault for not getting the windows tinted, but the car would take almost 10 minutes before the cabin cooled down. I traded that in on an F30 and the AC cools down alot quicker. I did tint the windows on this car and that helps, but I actually have to turn the AC intensity down after a couple minutes in the car because it can start to feel too cold after 10 minutes.

Oh that's good to hear that the F30 has a good AC then.

Garage List
I live in hot, sunny Florida- and I would call it "adequate". It definitely gets the job done, although I do think that I have to turn the temperature lower than the actual desired cabin temp..

Tinting helps a lot too.

This is the first car I've tinted. I did it mainly for heat rejection and I think it really helps.

German A/C is still not the best...

American or Lexus A/C are so much more efficient.

Compared to my g/f Lexus RX, the F30 A/C is louder at the max vent.
and takes a few more minutes too long to achieve the lowest temperature...

Conclusion, imo, the F30 A/C is a tad undersized for the american market or wherever it tends to be hot... The F30 A/ C is perfect for the European market...
