There's something about BMW...

There's something about BMW that keeps you coming back to their brand or has soaked you in...what is it?

The way their cars feel on the road. Hooked for life some years ago after coming over from Benz.

There definitely is... had my first experience with an E6 2000 saloon back in the early 1970's. Father bought it and it took our motoring to a different level. My first BMW was a used E12 528, 1975 build, ran it from 1980 for 5-years, hooked me.

It is the driving experience, (when you get the specification right), nothing to match it, IMO. Driven and owned lots of other marques since those early days, but nothing has touched me the way each BMW does. Fond memories of the E28 528i, that was one outstanding car in its time.

Best BMW I've owned was an E39 540i touring, the V8 makes the car. Current car is an F11 535i touring, hope this car will take first place for the BMW experience, doing a good job at present.

I love the E39 540i. That V8 is magical.

I'm not sure. Probably its that my ideal car has conformed with BMW's ideals - yes it is brain washing. Now when I get into an MB, I keep thinking the layout is wrong, the steering is wrong, the pedal feel is wrong etc. Even when I sit in softer, more luxurious seats, I think its wrong because its too soft or too luxurious. When I sit in firmer seats I feel its not right either.

To me, I think its the balance of everything, and the combination of that. When people throw up, "Well car X is better because the acceleration or the fuel economy is...." it doesn't phase me because those cars don't have the balence in features that the BMW has and I would never seriously move away from BMW. A lot of this is intangible.

This is a problem for me however, since it makes it really hard to shop for other brands. For example, even if the ATS is better in every measurable way, under every driving situation, I would be hard pressed to move. Thoughts like, why isn't button Y reachable easily? Why are the bolsters shaped differently? Why is the leather quality like this? Basically I would probably enjoy driving the car, but I would not enjoy being in the car... Right now I enjoy both.

For me its definetely the feel of the car and its connection to the driver. And thats just coming from a 335i owner. I can only imagine what it would be like in an ///M car. I have driven M cars but its different when you own it and spend hours behind the wheel. One of these days Ill pick up a preowned 1M.

I think the HPFP smeared that for them. But I honestly havent had many problems with my 3er's. Just small stupid stuff. All 3 we owned have been very solid but granted we have kept none of them past 65-70k so I cant elaborate any further after that. BUt I have ran into quite a few e46's with well over 150k on the clock.

it's the overall driving "JOY" that comes standard with the car, regardless if one buys a base model or fully loaded...

more specifically "seat-of-your-pants feel": the combination of suspension geometry, engine, transmission, strut, rear-drive bias, steering weight, etc.

In my case, It actually was value compared to the S4 (which I liked better except for the steering feel). Also they have improved the interior a lot now and its arguably better than the older Audi one. I would have never bought it with the old interior.

We also have a G37x in the family and I understand that at first the BMW does not seem like good value, but if you think in terms of residuals, you cant go wrong with the BMW.

Answer: Because I've made so many trips to the BMW service dept, I'd miss the crew if I jump to another brand. They're like family (not in a good way or like the Olive Garden).

The design, the drive is a nice mix of comfort and sportiness, the dealership experience here is second to none. I do think the cars are a decent value, and mine have been (knock on wood) very reliable. And of course the sport seats are like God is cupping my bum. Also that "THUD" when you shut the door...it's almost erotic.

I can remember always liking the brand and the cars, but it wasn't until I was in colleg ein the late 90's that I remember seeing the E46 and deciding right then that I would own one one day. The car was just sexy. Perfect blend of sport and class.

When I got to a point where I could afford it, I traded my old Blazer in towards a 2004 325i. I knew if I was getting a BMW, it had to be MT. Literally learned how to drive Manual off the dealer lot.

My experience with the CA's and Service Advisors just sealed the life-long deal for me. If I ever went anywhere else with my wife, be it KIA or Chevy, the experience just left me feeling cold and empty. Same can be said for the cars. Other brands just feel like utilities to me whereas a BMW is a wonderful toy that puts a smile on my face.

When I was coming out of my E46 lease, I decided I'd play the field though. I did my research and decided to get a 2007 Acura TSX...a very nice sporty car. I noticed that every time I saw a Bimmer on the road, I would feel sadness and regret. I also HATED FWD and torque steer. After just THREE months, I found myself back on the lot and eating it financially just to get back into a 2007 E90. I was so eager, I didn't even bother waiting for a manual. Just needed to be back in one. (Side note...during the next 3 years, I missed the hell out of the MT and vowed never to go back to AT.)

Ultimately, after driving my wife's Tahoe on the weekends, I finally convinced her to get the X3. Now I smile all the time.

I should also mention that I am totally in love with the performance and build of these cars. Second to none. I have joined the BMW-CCA and finally got to track my 2010 328i not too long ago.

Here's to getting my F30 335 soon and smiling for three more years!

You didn't know? They put an old German spell on each and every one of it's customers... I'm surprised you didn't know...
