Xenon Adaptive Headlights

If you have a 4 series with Xenon Adaptive Headlights does this automatically come with Adaptive High Beams and if not, can the Adaptive High Beams be coded into the vehicle?

You can code it if you have 5AP and 8S4 listed on your VIN decode build sheet.

Whats 5AP have to do with it? I have 8S4, but not 5AP. 5AP is supposed to be "Decoding for no-dazzle hgh bm", so if you have that, you should already have auto high beams.

Also, when its coded, how do you activate them? The left stalk has an extra button that normally turns them on.

Strange, on my car 8S4 is "decoding variable light distribution". I do not have 5AP.

Yes, I already had auto-high beams on my 435 so I had to delete 5AP and 8S4 then VO code FEM_BODY and FLA3.

Anti-Dazzle is activated the same way you would activate the auto-high beam function. You use the same button on the stalk.

This is the method I used:

1. Remove 5AP and 8S4 from the FA. If you have e-Sys, it should come with the documentation how to accomplish this.

2. VO code the FLA module.
This is how to VO code a module (aka ECU):
Connect to car -> Read FA -> Activate FA -> Read SVT -> Right click on the module (In this case, it is FLA. Remember, it's not the underlying CAFD) and select Code

3. VO code the FEM_BODY module.

If you have been coding your car, i assume most of the changes have been made to the FEM_BODY module. If you VO code the FEM_BODY module, it will revert all the FDL coding you have done in that module back to default. So you will have to FDL code them again.

Exactly. 5AP should be present on cars that already have auto high beams from the factory, but not ones that don't. At least not in the US. We don't get anti dazzle here.

You don't have S5APA in your FA?

You probably have what I have, regular adaptive Xenons, with no auto high beam. I have 8S4 but no 5AP also. And I have all the packages. Only thing I don't have is the $250 auto high beam option.

Got it! All these damn BMW options is so confusing. Its like going to Ruth Chris's steak house...everything is a la carte! Just give me a complete steak dinner with sides for one price!!

Are you reading from the FA Editor? Maybe BMW doesn't list it with the VIN build sheet anymore.

With 8S4 you should still be able to code the variable light distribution, but I would still look in FA Editor to see if you have 5AP first.

OK will plug in my laptop now. I must admit this is getting out of my comfort zone in terms of coding my BMW. So far I have only done basic editing to turn and off features. I need to read the E sys documentation a bit over lunch.

You can still remove 8S4, but check to see if you have 5AP. Do you have a camera in the the mirror? If you do, you should have 5AP in your FA Editor list.

Just checked, I do not have 5AP or 5AC (high beam assist)...guess I am SOL.

What does removing 8S4 do?

This allows the light beam to adapt according to vehicle speed. When driving in the city, a low beam is used to better illuminate the road immediately ahead without dazzling oncoming drivers. At higher speeds the headlamps are raised to increase visibility.

OK cool so it seems its still worth removing 8S4 even though I cant get Adaptive High Beam.

I'll have to ask Scott about this. I definitely have the camera in the mirror because I have lane departure.
