Here now

After a confusing few weeks looking for a great BMW forum I think I've picked the right one to spend some time. So, not quite new to BMW (had a company 328 in 2000) and have my own '12 320d SE now, or F30 as I've learnt! A lot more to learn and always interested in other's stories. I'm an obsessive car detailer and already have the car ready for winter with various coats of protection and shine. I'm Phil - glad to be here.

Hi Phil, do you detail your own cars or pay someone?

Judging by the fact he's got a garage I'd say he does it himself......only guessing mind!

Welcome Phil.

I haven't, until now, felt able to talk openly about my addiction.

Hi my name is John and I am an obsessive car detailer..

There I've done it... Just wish I had a garage so I could do it in private without the neighbours watching!

Lol - thanks for the great welcome!

A good wash (2 bucket method) with a good shampoo and lambswool mitten, diluted Bilberry on the alloys and a good scrub (amazing how much brake dust spins off onto the inside!), a coat of Autoglym super resin polish followed by a coat of extra gloss protection. Will put on 2 coats high definition carnauba wax on next weekend. Meguires tyre gel, Autoglym rubber and vinyl inside and finish with autofresh spray to maintain that new car smell! I ran out of my good glass cleaner so nicked the wife's Windolene (and got chewed out for it! lol ). If anyone is interested in some great car detailing products, techniques and tips then head over to the very friendly guys at http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/

I just do it for myself as a hobby. And yes, blessed with a double garage and a fridge of beer.

A fellow OCD detailer! Looks very nice in silver My detailing radar can even spy you've got what looks like the same jetwash (Nilfisk?) as me! If you've not already changed the hose for the rubber version I'd highly recommend it

Looking forward to getting stuck into mine as well - some extra winter protection will be applied very shortly!

How very observant! A Nilfisk e140 and great idea about a rubber hose. You have a link handy?

Garage List
Luvverly car there

Nothing nicer than seeing an eye-achingly clean example (only trouble is at this time of year it takes about 5 minutes for it to get filthy again!)

Here you go: Nilfisk E140 hose - this is the one I bought and it is really worthwhile - if you've got the hose which it came with you'll have experienced the frustration of it 'coiling' itself back up and generally getting tangled up. With the replacement rubber version it just sits and allows you to get on with the job - not to mention it's a bit longer too allowing you to get all the way round the car. It also won't kink or bend like the standard hose either.

It's not cheap, but luckily I'd read a bit on Detailing World before I opted for the E140 so was aware of the 'fun' some had had with the standard hose, so had already bought the rubber hose and fitted it straight away which enabled me to sell the standard one as 'new' taking a bit of the sting out of the cost of the new one.
