I have this tune on my 528i. Easy to install, cheap, works fine. Especially torque is improved around 3000 rpm

I'd be interested in hearing how badly it knocks, and how BMS is avoiding codes for those of us who want to try to maintain our warranty for as long as possible. As far as I know this doesn't have code deletion / resetting built in. My guess is that it keeps the tune within maximum thresholds for code generation, but who knows, since it's just a boost tune.

We sell and have been using the BMS JB for the N54 and N55 motor in the E9X 3 series and E8X 1 series for a long time. I have used it on my personal car (a 2010 335i 6mt). Its a great tune at a great price, not to mention the support BMS provides is fantastic.

They don't have code deletion built in, but BMS offers a CAN tool which you can use to clear codes very easily.

What makes you think the Tune would knock? I'd only expect knocking from a tune like this when you use a lower octane than specified for the tune. We've never had any issues on the N54 or N55 variants, so I wouldn't expect BMS to start putting out an inferior and poorly tested product now.

The can tool does not work on the n20 but the bavarian technic cable that bms sells does. It lets you delete codes before you take it to the dealer to have it serviced. Btw, i think it does more than just raise the boost level. It connects to 4 different sensors in the engine bay so it must be a bit more than that. Good luck.

Changes have allowed the can tool to work as per here:

Curious, did BMS state this or did you come to this conclusion when comparing the installation guide?

edit: Spoke with Jon at BMS, he confirmed the N20 tune will be fine on an N26 car. Got a little worried there too, will be installing later today!

I emailed one of the contacts from their website, whoes name was Jason and he emailed me back that the juice box only works for
N20 and they are not planning on anything for the N26 as of now... I mean if it works I'm definitely ordering it..but I wanted to make sure before I did.. thats why I emailed them...

Let me know how it goes... if it works I am ordering!!!

That's weird, I emailed them today and asked the same question and was told it should work just fine..see below

Terry,

I was curious whether or not the BMS N20 beta tune will work for my 2013 328i M-Sport considering it is the N26 engine. I have heard conflicting answers and just wanted to make sure before I order this. Thanks!

Also, would you be able to provide me with any sort of rough timeline for a stage 2 variant of this tune?

RESPONSES BELOW...
#1
Yes it does. No idea on a stage2 time line yet.
#2
Yes, we expect that it will fit with no problems.

RSXDC5, I advise you wait until I confirm it works before ordering. Thus far, I have a bad feeling it won't. I'm not new to modifying (I know my way around a wankel 13b ) but this is my first go at BMW...

The N20 motor (and other BMW turbo motors) all seem to have vacuum activated wastegates. In the BMS tune, you intercept the boost solenoid, which seems to effect wastegate activation. However, on the N26, the wastegate is electronically controlled, and there is no boost solenoid (that I can see). I've got a lot to learn about this motor but at the moment, because wastegate activation is electronically controlled rather than vacuum, the BMS tune doesn't seem to be compatible. I could be entirely wrong though (and truthfully, hope I am wrong)!

I will be very disappointed if this tune is not compatible. Not disappointed with BMS (seems like a great product!) and not disappointed with BMW (great platform!) but disappointed with the situation. Why N26, why?!

Anyways, emailed BMS, let's see what happens. Fingers crossed I'm a massive noob

I'm glad you emailed them, hopefully you went into detail in that email like you did above?

Also, im not new to the tuning scene either, my last engine was a fully built K24 (2.4L 4 cyl honda engine) making 318whp (no ITB's) on MS109. Never owned a bmw before, never owned a boosted car before, but i know my way around a car thats for sure!!

I just wish cobb would get going on releasing an access port for the N20, Dinan needs to get on the tuning bandwagon also.

Wow, quick response from BMS! They said to simply not plug that connector into anything. We'll see how things go tomorrow, will probably take the tune off later this week to do a before & after dyno later this week. Pretty happy to get this response!

Not sure Cobb will release anything for our car in the near future. It seems you have to adjust pins in the ECU to 'diagnostic' in order to reflash, something like that.

On a side note, any pics of the DC5? Never a Honda head myself though I know some guys in the scene.

Thats is the reason why I am unsure of ordering the kit. A co-worker of mine has the same juice box on a N26. The boost vacuum solenoid is not connected because of the electronically controlled wastegate. It doesnt make sense to me how is the wastegate controlled if its not plugged in? How is the boost controlled if nothing is connected to the vacuum solenoid. Unless the connections to the MAF, TMAP, and MAP give difference readings and makes the DME hold the electronically controlled solenoid for more boost. My co-worker says he does feel the difference though...
