Oh dear - so we know the answer to the LCI's new suspension setup then:

Revised saloon icon gets a superb engine and a more upmarket interior but less than definitive handling
But on this evidence, it’s certainly worth taking several lengthy test drives, and even greater care with your order form, to ensure your new 3 Series represents the very best of what BMW has brought to the sports saloon market for the past four decades. Because on handling at least, there is now the very real chance that you’ll be sold on greatness, but end up with something a long way wide of that mark.

340i SE by the looks of both articles...

The M Sport version may be much improved. It doesn't seem clear on if the M Sport Adaptive Dampers see fitted in either case...

All it takes is BMW to have listened to different set of people.

Bad roads needing more bounce in suspension...

They both say the test car has the adaptive m sport suspension, so exept for the wheels and tyres the handling review is basically of an M Sport.

Strange Autocar & Autoexpress are completely opposed on the handling though!

The Pistonheads review says Michelin Pilot Super Sports are now optional! Anyone know if that's really true??

They mention the five stud mounting for front struts that's been standard since jan 15. What surprises me is the talk of poor steering feel. My car is one of the last non LCI cars and the steering feel is impressive. It's not twitchy around the straight ahead position and turns in lovely. Comfort mode feels very natural and not over assisted. I've selected adaptive dampers and in comfort it isn't soft but supple and controlled. How can BMW go backwards?

So your strut mounts have the 5 bolts?

Same thinking...

I've scanned through the reviews, for me something is not stacking up. BMW's first press release on the LCI improvements indicate they have addressed the steering concerns of early models. What we are reading (views are mixed) appear to be saying virtually the opposite.

I do wonder if the new suspension/steering benchmark set by the Jaguar XE means BMW 3/4 series will now be slated if they don't equal or exceed expectations. IMO, BMW have got to beat Jaguar, or the fickle motoring press will pull them apart.

We need some serious reviews of more models using UK roads.

Reading between the lines, VSS bad, new engine good. The UK press never liked VSS and that was the primary reason I didn't spec it as I couldn't drive a car with it. Sounds like VSS is still bad!

^^ ditto

Every reviewer was given the VSS

it's like the huracan launch

Every car tested was given VSS, universally hated

Then finally tested standard rack - turned out to be decent

What I can't understand is that if LCI models are available for shipping, as confirmed by one of our members in a thread earlier this week, why BMW is unable to muster a UK specified version of the LCI for some of the most critical reviews. These first reviews will stick for a long time and will be what many people read when deciding on how to spend 40 grand on a car. I can't fathom how a company like BMW could drop the ball like that. The suspension and drivability of these cars are what is supposed to separate them from their competitors, surely they should have made this version perfect. It does suggest that by heavily discounting the car they were trying to ensure sales which they will have succeeded in doing.

I imagine more in depth reviews will bring other opinions on the model. I would be keen to see a review for a standard x drive m sport model which is the one that has gained a bad reputation for its factory suspension.
