What made you choose the F30 over the F10?

I'm considering both but can't decide...

I have the means to get the F10 550i but chose ordering a custom F30 exactly for the quoted reason above. To me, it's the closest thing to an E39 but has the conveniences of a modern car (Bluetooth, native iPod integration, etc.) for my commuter car needs.

Still miss the feeling of endless gobs of torque from the E39. I came via an E39 to a Range Rover, so I will miss the room but hey, there is always a compromise.

Take a good look at the f30. I have both an f30 and my E90. The f30 is has much more passenger room than the E90. If you look at the specs you will see the f30 is longer and wider but from an owners perspective I can tell you as I am sure most here will say, the f30 is a lot more comfortable for both driver and passengers (front and rear). I also agree with the others on the f30 being much more sportier looking than the f10. The f10 is a great looking car too and I did look at both but in the end the f30 just won me over.

Garage List
After checking F30 and F10 closely, the F30 had the same front/rear legroom as the F10. Not as wide, but the part that mattered to me was the same. Handling-wise, I liked the F30, and for $10K less similarly equipped, the F30 was the better choice for me.

Calm down. I quoted wrong post. Was looking to let the OP know what I thought. Not really a big deal.

I looked seriously at both the f10 and f30...
Space... Apart from width, there isn't much difference in interior space as the packaging seems better in the f30.
Performance... The f30 is about 150kg lighter with the same engine. Economy is also improved as a result.
Equipment... No big differences here.
Price... In the UK, lease prices massively favour the f30 at the moment.

I also found the f30 to be the more attractive looking machine, muscular rather than over weight

You can probably guess I ordered the f30! Lol

Was in a similar situation as you are about 6 months ago. I actually put $$$ down on a 550i RWD. I drove 4.5 hours one way to pick the 550i up, after one test drive, I turned around and drove home... not in the 550i. Unfortunately, here in Ohio finding a RWD 550i was impossible. I drove xdrive versions of the 550i and they didn't feel that great but I kept telling myself a RWD 550i with every single handling aid that BMW made available would make it a nice tight ride. Boy was I wrong. The 550i offered no visceral feed back. It was a nice tight car but it was too quiet, too heavy, too blah for me.

I actually called my local dealer on the drive home and setup a time to come in and sign for a custom ordered 335i. So glad I did. After 3 months of waiting my 335i M sport arrived last night. It is everything I wanted and then some. With the DHP it handles great and the sound is perfect. Not to mention the MPG is way better in the 335i compared to the 550i.

The other thing that kept me away from the 550i was the rear leg room. I am 6'6" and when I adjusted the multi-contour driver seat to my liking there was literally 2" between the seat back and the edge of the back seats. It rendered the rear seats absolutely useless. A 3 year old kid would have a hard time sitting behind me. In the 335i, with sport seats, I can actually sit behind myself. The seat backs on the 335i are much thinner than the multi-contour seats on the 550i.

At the end of the day I really really wanted to like the 550i. I told myself it was a modern day muscle car in a tuxedo. But after spending some seat time in one it was really very easy to walk away from it. It's just a completely different driving experience compared to the F30. Now that I have my 335i I have not had even a twinge of second though about my decision.

I do like my f30 but I always fancied a f10 even brought home a demo m sport in space grey(my favourite color which I had on my e90 m sport at the time) but my wife didn't even want to go for a drive in it because of the size of it which I had to understand as she drives it 90% of the time and in town(we've had this f30 for 3 months and only driven on motorway once) and the f10 is definitely not a city car. Wish I could have both

I think the driver experience is great in both but for different reasons. Ultimately, it's down to personal preference and needs.

I would have ordered an F30 if I could have had an xdrive diesel last year.

This pretty much sums it up for me, although I won't be in my F30 for another nearly three weeks. Three years ago I sold my E60 5er and was sure that I would replace it with the then new F10. After a few test drives I was so disappointed that I ended up buying a CTS. As others have said, the F30 handles like a boat. To me the CTS handled and performed far more like my E60 than the new F10 even tried to. It's really been a very good car.

I didn't buy a 3er at the time because I never really liked the E90. It was too small in the rear seating area, too small in the trunk, and for me I didn't care for the aesthetics of the car, inside or out. So, CTS it was. Now with the F30 available, all the things I didn't like about the E90 have been fixed with the new 3er. It looks great, offers plenty of interior space, and handles and performs like a proper BMW. The choice is easy.

F10 got worse mileage, $7K more, judged less reliable by Consumer Reports, and longer and wider (small garage) than F30. Had reputation of being less responsive. Easy choice.

The harder choice was my initial target, the 1-series - fabulous reviews, even cheaper, although kind of ugly and weaker in gadgets. But it was just too small, both in headroom and in the backseat.

F10 steering was way to vague. The car was a major bore to drive.

I loved the interior and comfort though.
