DSC OFF

My F30 being my first BMW I did not know what DSC off was really for. A couple days back I left DSC off and coming into a turn I went in fast and felt the back slide out a bit. How do you guys like DSC off. One quick question when BMW lists the 0-60 times is it with DSC off or just as the car sits upon starting up?

Thanks.

Every time it rains I turn DSC off (only drive on back roads, no freeway) and I love it. With the skinny 225s out back and a well balanced chassis, it makes low speed driving immensely more fun and interesting. Considering it has a turbo engine, the 328i is surprisingly manageable past the limits.

Only used "DSC-Off" in snowy conditions. Traction from stationnary onwards feels definitely better. In all other situations I leave DSC on.

For day to day driving I like leaving it on. It increases the safety margins of the car.

For snowy conditions, turning off DSC (switching to DTC) makes it easier to take off on loose snow at a slight cost to the feeling of stability.

Turning off both DSC and DTC (holding the button) is fun when trying to take the car to its limits. But be careful doing that on public roads if you're not experienced with RWD handling at limits -- you can get yourself into trouble pretty quickly.

(Kidding... sort of)

If you pressed and released the DSC button, you de-activated the first stage of traction control. This would allow for a bit more slip and is useful in situations like getting a car "unstuck" from snow. Pressing and holding DSC for about :10 will completely de-activate traction control.

Realistically, you really only need to shut off DSC for high-performance driving in a controlled environment like auto-cross, track days, or a 0 - 60 run. Even when left on, DSC allows a fair bit of play before intervening. When I went to Thunderhill Raceway last year for a High-Performance Driving Event, I left DSC on, flogged the car mercilessly and never lit up DSC once.

I drive in Sport+ mode 99% of the time. In this winter snow and a wide open parking lot, DSC off (hold the button for 5 sec) is a blast.
