335i Single exit exhaust

So has anyone attempted to have made or make a custom single exit exhaust system for a 335i. I like the duals and all but sometimes a Single exit can really look nice. I really wanted to my my own system in Solidworks and utilize a nice straight-pipe (Megaphone style tailpipe, Graduated small to large) but also still have the EV in the system so I can quiet it down whenever i need to go into Lurk mode. If anyone has done something like this throw up some pics. I think even a 328i M Sport diffuser would look good with this system.

the thing with keeping the valve system in the car is that the right pipe is always open and jsut the left pipe opens and closes (i believe thats how my car works). in my head, the easiest way was to chop off the pipe coming out of the right side and weld shut. but then when valve is closed, the backpressure or the closed valve might mess up performance of the car as the valve is on the left side and that sthe only pipe now. unless you custom bend a new pipe for either side and route it to one side, then custom fabricate both pipes into a single megaphone style tip/pipe. as for the straight pipe, u just gotta empty out the muffler if you wanna retain the factory valve system, though i think straight pipe and factory valve system combination is pointless, it wont be that much quieter.

so if you wanted a straight pie and single exit, my best suggestion is ditch the valve system and get a custom fabricated pipe replacing the axle back with your desired megaphone tip

tbh I know nothing about exhausts and the systems but thats just what was in my head.

Well my idea was to put on a muffler or resonator on the side and have the valve work more as a diverter. When closed it would force the exhaust (3-3.5 in.) Int one side of a y pipe and then either go straight out the straight pipe or get diverted through the muffler/resonator and then it would rejoin to exit the system. Since you would be running a single pipe at an angle you could manipulate the system geometry to accommodate a resonator. Also using the factory/oem valve could work or you could get an EVC unit and do it from the drivers seat or from a remote on the keys.

Just my thoughts.

interesting. So what i'm getting out of this is that you want the exhaust to go thru to the muffled side when the valve is closed. and when valve is open, it will go through straight pipe and the muffler.

sorry for the shitty painting, on my gf comp no good programs to use. the red is the muffler, where when the valve is closed, the exhaust will go thru to the exit tip by going thru the green outlined pipe and muffler. when the valve is open though, it will go thru the top pipe outlined in orange thru that valvecontrol module. the exit tip internally has two routes, one that is blocked by the valve and the other that leads to the muffler. the red arrow is the valve module. this is somethign i think it would look like? Exactly. And since the actual muffler won't be in the way the potential for design is awesome.

I've never preferred the look of a single exhaust port on a performance vehicle. A Honda civic perhaps. I wish ours (335) actually had a dual tip exhaust option on the dual ports, but then I recognize that look is usually used on the top tier(s) of the performance lines, which ours is not.

To each their own. Most performance vehicles of the 90's had singles. Weather they were Japanese or European.

Certainly to each owner, make it to their tastes.

90s performance vehicles like a Corvette

Viper

Trans-Am

Porsche

Lol the corvette from the 90s is hardly a performance vehicle in my eyes. Also all of those have separate banks of cylinders either in the V shape or H shape so naturally it would be easier to run a single pipe for each set of cylinders.

IDK, 300-400HP in the mid 90s was performance levels. Even today for some cars.

Saw you got a broken charge pipe, that sucks. But the aftermarket ones should keep you safe.

Definitely to each their own.

First things that come to mind with a single exit exhaust are Supra's, Evo's and 350/370z's.

I don't want just a single exit with twin pipes I want motif a custom solution that's going to look good and sound good when I need it too and quiet when I don't.

I actually thought about running a can muffler but figured A: I would get so much hate from everyone and B: I am not sure how it would look. I would almost need to get an actual muffler and mount it in there to see how it would look.

I get that you might have been replying to the reference to the 90's era cars, without quoting the text, but you know that half your list (yes half when you consider the latest EVO is dual, and the older ones are single) are dual exhaust right? In addition to the Evo X, all 350 and 370Z's are dual.

It's pretty common people change them to single exit.

Just google "single exit 350z/370z" and "single exit evo"

Tons of photos.
