[8/18 Update] tiltmode43's F30 328i Build Thread

Just starting a thread so I can chronologically journal the progress of my car in one place. I don't plan on making huge changes to this car, though my plans and what actually happens often differ

I won't post pics of my last car but I will say it was a Mazda RX8 that went through various phases. After ordering aero from Japan and 15 sets of aftermarket wheels (I was a wheel whore with that car; everything from Volk TE's, CE's & RE's to custom Weds Bazreias and BBS LM's), it was time to move on to another platform. The 2.0 turbo in the 328i looked like it would be a great choice for tuning so I opted for the 328i over the 335i.

Let's begin!

Picked up the car 7/29/12 2012 AW no-line 8AT

Among the first mods were the BMW Performance grills, IND color matched corner markers & key hole cover, Burger Motorsports Stage 1 Tune (via Mod Bargains), Evolution Racewerks intake & downpipe, P3Cars vent gauge, & BMW Performance steering wheel.

(My best 0-60 on stock wheels & tires with above mods. A little optimistic, though I think the P3cars Gauge may include a bit of rollout. More on the P3 gauge later)

Next up, CKS coilovers w/Swift Springs installed at EAS - read about my EAS experience here -> http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=798333. Might be raising the car up a bit with the next set of wheels, we'll see!

Had to get wheels ASAP! VMR V705, 35% tint on sides + rear, and the AFE Intake Scoop were next. Also threw on a GMG front license plate tow-hook bracket (not pictured) after getting a plate ticket in front of my place

Alignment @ www.drivtechonline.com

Photoshoot with VMR! Full set can be found in this thread! Hi-res can be found here.

Snapped these two shots the day after Bimmerfest 2013 while still in 'show trim'

Recent VMR Wheels shoot on V721, full photoshoot thread here -> http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?p=14460275

Almost forgot about this shoot! VMR shoots my car on their new V810 wheel (raised the car a tad too). Thread here -> http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=921562

Installed BMS Stage 2
Soon after, Drunk Driver Hit & Run & Caught (thread here -> http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=918009)

Back to her original glory! Impeccable repair, could not be happier with it.

Last hoorah in the VMR Wheels booth @ Bimmerfest 2014. It was pretty cool to see AW E82, AW M235i, & AW F30 all next to each other!

Last photoshoot before taking everything off, on VMR V810 flow form in Gunmetal.

That's the end of the road! Picked up a Z4M, time to put the F30 to stock and move on. Bittersweet, really, as I'm still in love with the F30's aggressive front fascia and cannot get over the taillights, even after staring at them the past 2 years. Absolutely love the MPG and power this little 4-banger delivered. All the great sounds from the intake, turbo, and fully open exhaust were a nice cherry on top as well.

Current Mods:

Wheels & Tires:
VMR Wheels V721 in Hyper Silver
19x8.5 ET35, 19x9.5 ET45
5mm spacers front, 8mm spacers rear
235/35/19, 275/30/19 Falken FK452

Suspension:
CKS Suspension Coilovers w/Swift Springs

Engine & Performance:
AFE Intake Scoop
Evolution Racewerks Intake
Evolution Racewerks Chargepipe
Evolution Racewerks Downpipe
Burger Motorsports Stage 2 Tune
P3 Cars Vent Gauge
AFE Power Catback Exhaust w/Polished Tips

Exterior / Interior:
M-Sport Front Bumper
M-Sport Side Skirts
BMW Performance Front Lip
BMW Performance Side Splitters
BMW Performance Steering Wheel
BMW Performance Grills
IND Color Matched Reflectors
IND Keyhole Cover
Painted Mirror Covers
Weathertech Window Visors
35% Tint Sides & Rear

you didn't have to get a different airbag on your base car?
that's been holding me back, and most have confirmed that in order to do the M Performance Steering wheel, you have to buy a different sized airbag...

It's not a 'proper' fit, but it works well enough for now. Better than the no-line wheel for me for now though, haha.

I'm sure you've seen it but if not, check out my thread about this subject here -> http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=759614

Agreed, it seems I'm a little lower than most go in the BMW world. I'm cool with my dealer but I'm still wondering what they'll say when I bring this by for service in a couple thousand miles

They do normally include camber plates. Initially, mine did not, however this is because I was a part of an early production batch. I've now got the CKS camber plates on the way and will be throwing them in soon.

Yep, definitely doing aero! Right now M-Sport is the only widely available bumper option on the market, so many have it. I'm usually about doing something different, so I'm trying to hold off for other options. I considered the 3D Design front lip, but it's not too aggressive. Plus, $1000+ on a front lip on a low car is a big risk, haha.

Thanks! I doubt it will ever finish really, I love change. My last car was modded for the greater part of 6 years without really stopping =0

Yeah, it's definitely not for everyone. I'm still deciding if I really like it myself, or not

So, I picked up a set of bumper sport trim/whiskers, in case I go with a front lip option that requires them. The day before I picked up the trim, I went for a photoshoot with VMR wheels. See the full set in this thread!

19x8.5 ET35 w/235/35/19 & 19x9.5 ET45 w/275/30/19. 5mm spacers used front and rear. It's a little sunk due to my ride height & alignment but this setup would work really well with a moderate drop or stock suspension.

Thanks! You should come out to the next OC meet, I'd love to check out those BBS in person. I've had LM's before and was considering RGR's for a while. Those CX-R's look really nice too.

Arrived this week, going in soon. My fronts could use it too, stock front adjustability is no good!

Ah, not going to lie, have not had a chance to install yet! Main issue is finding the time around work to have the front realigned. Should have them in before the end of the month though, will finally allow me to fine tune the front camber.

The DP did trigger the CEL for no cat. BMS does offer a separate "CEL Fix," and will have the CEL off integrated into their stage 2 tune.

Will do!

Minor updates with much more to come soon. Made it into the VMR 2013 catalog. It's a pretty cool book! I think they may even be giving them away at Bimmerfest this year.

Today I fit the M-Sport front bumper, M-Sport retrofit kit w/side skirts, BMW Performance Front lip, & BMW Performance side splitters all in my car! Going to the body shop soon, really can't wait for the new look. Will also be selling these V705 within the next couple weeks as well
