COMMENTS

Although the F31 touring has been available in international markets, the U.S. will finally see it in dealers soon, in the form of the 328i xDrive, like the one seen here on the 2013 NYIAS showfloor. Specs and pricing listed in the information placard photo below. The F31 U.S. online configurator recently came online at BMWUSA.com. The 328 xDrive touring starts at $41,450.

Likewise, the BMW 320i has also been available outside the U.S. (since the launch of the F30 3 series), but will also be hitting U.S. dealers soon. The 320i starts at $33,445 and the xDrive model at $35,445. Here are its vital specs:
  • 2.0liter TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder
  • Twin-scroll turbocharger (cylinder 1, 4 and 2, 3 share a scroll each)
  • 180HP at 5.000 rpm
  • 200 lb-ft of torque from 1,250 rpm - 4,500 rpm
  • Both 8-speed automatic and 6-speed manual available for the 320i (8-speed auto only for 320i xDrive)
  • 0-60mph in 7.1 seconds (320i)
  • Top speed: 130mph (electronically limited)
  • 50/50 weight distribution
  • Preliminary MPG rating:
    320i 6-speed manual: 22/34
    320i 8-speed auto: 23/33
    320i xDrive 8-speed auto: 22/33
  • 17-inch wheels standard
  • Sport package available including 18-inch wheels with summer tires and increased top speed limiter, sport seats, M Sport suspension, M steering wheel and anthracite headliner.
  • M Sport package not available

I don't get the 320 in the US. Personally, I would rather have the 328d. Much better gas mileage and much more torque.

It's likely to start at least 10-15% higher in price. The 320i is a price leader.

Glad to see the wagon coming. Wish the 5 wagon would have made it over here.

I like how the 320i has the old styled "sports package" option instead of the ridiculous sport line on the other models.

It has the essential sport seats / sport steering wheel (It's actually a Mtech wheel!) / Sport suspension / Larger Wheels for $1300. Well worth it in my books.

I just built myself a black M-Sport Touring on BMWUSA.com. Sure is pretty. I can see it looking fantastic with a ski/bike rack on top.

Sadly, it rang up at $57,520 and it's only a 328.

I know that I'm part of a small US target market and BMW doesn't care what I think - but I will say that if they offered this vehicle as a 335 xDrive, it would be a top contender for my next ride. As a 328, I probably will never consider one.

320i makes perfect sense, great price point, similar power and more torque than an E46 325i, excellent economy and as mentioned above, a traditional sport package option. Just what the doctor ordered for an entry level sports sedan.

Even if that meant it was over $60K?

So there is a $4600 premium for the 328 xDrive wagon over the 328i sedan and $2600 over the 328 xDdrive sedan? Sorry, no way BMW, regardless of what engine is in there.

I couldn't agree with you more. I'd rather have a base 335 touring than a loaded 328 touring. X drive or not idc. They should at least make it as a special order only

All wagons always carried ~$2000 premium over the same model sedans. Since the $2600 also includes standard sunroof (optional on 328xi sedan), there's nothing to complain about. At least, nothing new to complain about - I don't know, maybe you also didn't like E91, E61, and E39/2 pricing.

Hence why we have a strange looking X1 35i, it was the only way to get the N55 in a wagon, and since it's my wife's car, the automatic only wasn't a deal breaker.

Agreed.

I'm also disappointed they didn't see a market for the Manual transmission in the touring, regardless of spec. Same as you said, special order for the manual.

I agree that $57 large is a LOT, but you say you wouldn't even consider it because it's a 328. Have you driven a 328? It's freakin' brilliant.

I built a wagon on the site too. It came out to $54,XXX... really expensive, but my biggest grip is that I don't want or need X Drive! If the F31 came standard with RWD and offered X Drive as an option then the base price would be lower and I (anyone) could build a really nice wagon for closer to $50K. I paid $48 for my well optioned F30 M Sport and would happily pay a little more for a maxed out F31.

That wagon is gorgeous. Now drop an N55 in there and they'll sell like crazy.

I know, I know...I'm sure it is. I bought an E53 X5 with the I6 engine back in 2001. It was a brilliant car, but I kicked myself the whole time I owned it every time I saw a V8 version drive by. I promised myself I would not do that again.

seems to me it went up some but i forgot about the 328i not having the moonroof standard, so i guess its on par with previous wagons. its just if arent looking for xDrive, $4600 is a lot to sway you against.

Ive seen quite a few f30's in mass, considering they havent been out for too long i'd have to disagree and say yes they are selling like crazy. I actually see very few x1's imo its because people who buy them settle because they can't afford the x3/x5 or because the f31 isnt out yet

Bmw has so many variants i dont see why they can't have the n55 in the f31, especially if theyre flaunting all of these sport mods for them

I could not agree more on the pricing. All the 320 is doing is moving everything else upwards in price. I know I'm in the minority, and sales would show different, but I still cannot believe what non-M 3 series are going for.

... And mid 50k for a non-335 is astronomical. Even mid 50's for a decently optioned 335 is high.

BMW just is pricing itself out of my list of possibilities for my next car.
