Dealer reset all my coding

So, I brought my car in service for a brake change with 1,400 miles left on the interval. My car only has 17,000 miles on it. My SA told me that he would have the brakes looked at... when I received a call from him, he said that the car was going under programming because the computer had the brake intervals wrong. He said they would need to reset some modules (can't remember which ones); when I got my car back, everything I coded was gone and the brake interval was set at 20,000 (didn't change the pads or rotors). My SA didn't say anything about the coding either.

I don't mind recoding my car; I was just wondering if anyone else experienced the same thing...?

When the vehicle gets software updates, it'll update the modules that have a "newer" version which will also be coded based on the Vehicle Order.

Therefore it will inadvertently "reset" all the coding as essentially the original modified file gets replaced by a newer version.

That's why sometimes when they update/program the car, only certain modules will be updated and only those modules would be "reset" while the other ones may retain the coding done.

They must have updated everything then, because everything that I modified is gone. How can you tell if it got updated? Is that where I-Step comes in?

Yes, the same thing happened to me. Brake pads remaining mileage was stuck at 1400 miles for over 6,000 actual miles. It was a software bug in the CBS. New software fixed it and cleared all of my coding; a normal occurrence.

I had 31K miles on the car at the time of the service and I thought I'd get a new set of pads all around. SA said that I still have 8mm left on the pads and I think he said they start out at 10mm and don't replace them until they get down to 3mm, so I still have lots of life left on them.

I now have 34K miles on the car and the CBS says that I have 35K miles left on the front pads and 45K miles left on the rear pads.

And, yes, they updated you to a new I-Step. To re-code your changes, you will need updated data files.
