Tokyo Motor Show 2013: Alpina B4 World Biturbo World Premiere

Alpina has just debuted its newest model - the Alpina B4 Biturbo Coupe at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. Japan is Alpina's third largest market.

The B4 features the same powertrain as the Alpina B3 Biturbo, a twin turbo 3.0L inline 6 producing 410 HP and 443 LB-FT. The Alpina B4 Coupe covers 0-62 MPH in 4.2 seconds and runs up to 197 MPH. An 8 speed automatic transmission is standard.

Cosmetically and other performance upgrades include a front bumper lip, trunk spoiler, quad exhaust and Alpina wheels (with non run-flat Michelin Pilot Super Sports) and adaptive suspension.

So far this year Alpina has sold 1,400 cars across the globe.

Have a look at some official photos and the B4 at the Tokyo show.

Anyone know which motor is powering this thing? Is it the old N54 (as it notes twin turbo) or a modified N55?

I am sure they would use the same modified n55 that they use in the b3

Interesting. 0-60 in 4.2 seconds

I'm sure BMW wont even quote that time for the M3/4 since the M5 is quoted at 4.2

Is this really faster than the M4 ?

I don't understand why Alpina don't sell more cars.

I expect the B3&4 and D3&4 will change that especially if Autocar are to be believed

I thought 1400 for the year was a pretty good amount. Considering how much they cost.

Awesome looking car!

It is a hybrid of sorts... based off of the N55 BUT... Alpina uses a twin turbo setup like used on N54 engines. Alpina uses their own software and their own Bosch DME. In fact their engines earn a cleaner low emissions rating in the EU norm cycle than BMW's own engines. EU6. BMW's N55 is only rated at EU5. The higher the number the lower the emissions and tax based on CO2 in grams/kilometer traveled.

Here are some pics of Alpina's B3 engine seen at the IAA Frankfurt Autoshow this last Sept.

Alpina B4 Engine

Cylinders 6 in line
Capacity (cc) 2979
Bore (mm) 84.0
Stroke (mm) 89.6
Compression ratio (:1) 10.2
Max output (kW / hp / 1/min) 301 / 410 / 5500-6250
Max torque (Nm / 1/min) 600 / 3000-4000
Engine management BOSCH MEVD 17.2.6
Fuel type Super Plus
Emissions classification Euro 6

Performance

Acceleration 0-100km/h (s) 4.2
0-200km/h ~14 secs
Top speed (km/h) 305

Fuel consumption *
Urban (l/100km) 10.2
Extra-urban (l/100km) 6.1
Combined (l/100km) 7.6

Why do we only get the B7 in the states?! I would love to have the D3, B3, and B4. I think they would be great sellers.

If these were available in N.A. I would strongly consider getting an Alpina variant. I'm sure the M3/M4 is going to carry a premium over the Alpina and I'm not sure if it would be worth the difference.
